last year, hubby gave me a mini roses plant. which promptly almost died. but, i managed to keep the roots and stems alive and in the spring, planted in the front yard hoping for the best. not only did it come back to life, but it quadrupled in size and produced the most beautiful roses until october!

i told hubby to get me these plants from now on. i can build up a little mini rose garden. and they will last forever and they cost under $20!

I don't jump on the Valentine's Day crapaganda wagon either, but this will be my first Valentine's Day ever...with a significant other. I need to make it special.

Yes, unless you are being facetious..in which case.. .yes.

I am looking forward to not being a curmudgeon this year. lol

No facetiousness intended, it's just, well.... I mean, we've all seen your photos and it's hard to imagine you'd be short of offers is all!

I can count on my left hand how many dates I have formally been asked out on in my life!

Of course, as an artist I am a bit of a hermit.

I hate the overpriced rose racket (and I like yellow or cream better than red).

I love the idea of sending flowers other than roses. Once upon a time I was sent flowers at work for Valentines Day--a bouquet of blood red anemones. They stood out among the sea of roses and they were probably a much better deal for the sender too.

I agree. I tell the Mister not to waste his money on flowers for Valentine's Day. I'd rather have them a week or two later at half the price. If I were to get flowers, I'd want white carnations with red edges. Those are the ones that my Dad always brought home for me on Valentine's Day. :)

Don't know about that, there are a lot of clueless guys out there...

OTOH, quite literally the only personal ambition I have is to woo some lovely lady and spend the rest of my life with her, so...

:eek:fftopic:
Well I have recently decided that my personal ambition is to find the right man that *"treats me like a bar of gold.. the queen, the apple of his eye and the reason he lives." * And one that remembers my Birthday too! :D

You know, I've been looking for that right woman, one to treat like a bar of gold, a queen, be the apple of my eye and to be the reason for living. But each time I thought I found one I in turn was treated like a bar of fool's gold, a court jester, the worm found in an apple and the reason for living far, far away. lol
Just kidding, but I just have a hard time finding someone who will have me for all my faults...[huh]

Y'know, you do kinda act like a court-jester at times, particularly in WONK...:p OTOH, having the Grim Reaper in play requires a lot of comic-relief.lol

The question is, Miss Mary, did Mr. RIOT bake the carrot-cake himself, or cheat and buy one at the supermarket? I'm sure I could dig out the old family recipe and overcome my aversion to oven-work (stove top I can do, oven I can't), given the right form of "persuasion"...;)

Flowers aren't gifts. Flowers come with the gift. Flowers are a promisory note that a gift is forthcoming.

What would I want for Valentine's Day? Let's see . . . as for a gift, the same as I've always wanted for Christmas: something I can actually use that I also want. Something for the second passion is always nice - the first passion, of course, being the lady giving me the gift. In my case, that'd be photo equipment; camera-, studio- or computer-related. Then I'd use said equipment to take great pictures of my lady, starting with some portraits and then . . . ;)

After that I'd like a nice dinner, some cuddling and good conversation. The rest of the evening will follow it's own path.

Of course, actually having a date, for a change, would make that a little more likely. :D
