I have tried it. Its good, but don't let the smokey label fool you. Its no Islay. Hard not to compare it to an Islay since it is smokey. Its worth a try. That said, I have only bought one bottle, and probably won't buy another. However, if I saw it at a bar, or somebody gave me a bottle, I would not turn it down. Try it and let me know what you think.I've wanted to try High West's Campfire Whiskey for a while now. Interesting blend. Have you tried that one, Matt?
I'm not much of a rye drinker because of the spice. Even with Irish whiskey I prefer Green Spot or Redbreast over Jameson; less spice & not as sweet. So I haven't bought any of the High West Ryes but their Campfire Whiskey blend sounds intriguing enough.I have tried it. Its good, but don't let the smokey label fool you. Its no Islay. Tonight, a special treat. Port Ellen 36 Douglas Laing. Tasty......
You probably won't like it, since it does have the spiciness of rye, but its worth a try. It is an interesting dram for sure.I'm not much of a rye drinker because of the spice. The Exxon down the street don't really have the most stellar selection...and when you factor in 8.1% abv for under $3, within walking distance........Holy crap!!! Ouch!
Good point. That should do the trick! The Exxon down the street don't really have the most stellar selection...and when you factor in 8.1% abv for under $3, within walking distance........

A few places around here have Mickey's in tall boy cans, but I haven't seen the bottles in a long time either. As far as Malt liquors go, Steel Reserve isn't any better (or too much worse) than any of those others you mentioned, but it is the highest abv so definately more bang for the buck. It absolutely no way around it has to be ICE F***ING COLD though.Good point. That should do the trick!
I have never had the Steel Reserve, but in college I was very familiar with OE 800, Colt 45, St. Ides, and the like. I would have to say my favorite was Mickeys. Especially the "green grenades". Haven't seen those up here in years.
Ice cold indeed! Its the only way.A few places around here have Mickey's in tall boy cans, but I haven't seen the bottles in a long time either.
