What Did You Drink Last Night?

My mixed drink - casino bar experience is mostly Las Vegas and I have found that 9 times out of 10 the level of competency was pretty high. As a matter of fact the bartender if not too busy would often come by and ask about your drink and then make suggestions. If you liked Manhattans they might suggest trying a different whiskey. I have even had them make a free drink and bring small samples to the group I was with so we could try what he was talking about. At other places i might stick with beer and have found that even the midlevel casinos have made an effort to put at least one good import or microbrew on tap at one of the bars.

John,

My sentiments exactly! My experiences of a lot of Vegas bars/casinos, has always been positive, and the bar staff very engaging, even if they are trying to get you to spend more!

I can recall one St. Patrick's Day, some years back now (when The Sands was still standing!), where the tab for several pints of Guinness was waived, as I was the only one drinking it! Everyone else was content to drink "green dyed" lager!

Cheers,

BD,

It wasn't until I complained, that everyone around the bar began to study their drinks more closely! A young lady stood next to me said, "If I'd been served those, I'd return them too!".

My apologies, I'd forgotten to set the answer machine, and didn't realise you'd called? If I'd known you were on your way, I would've stayed there! I take it you'll be there this Friday?

Danny O,

Tsk, tsk, what does it take to get a good drink these days? You with your offensive cocktails (the ones you were served), and me with my dreadful cider experience! I'm loosing my faith in mankind. :(

I had a manhattan. Rather nice drink, I get a feeling there are more of these in my future. They didn't have rye unfortunately.

I am looking to learn, in the realm of cocktails, what I like. Does anyone have a suggestion for a guy who likes martinis and thinks that gin and tonic is too sweet to be particularly pleasent?

Add The Last Word to the list.
Be careful with proportions as Green Chartreuse can be a bit much.

It is that warm there eh? :p Good to hear from you. :D

Ta James! Oh yes despite the grey skies and persistent drizzle it's like the tropics :p That said we did have bright sunshine for the first time in a bout a month for 3 hours yesterday!

The Snow Grouse is an odd concept, not sure if it has made it to the US but it was part of a trio between Famous Grouse, Black Grouse and Snow Grouse.

At room temperature it's ok and pretty good from the freezer. It's a bit of a novelty but I'm glad I tried it.
