It's a red-tie evening. If anyone's curious, it's traditional to wear red during Chinese New Year.

I decided on that enssemble a week ago, when I found out we were entertaining for CNY. I picked out the red tie specifically. It's traditional to wear red during Chinese celebrations (but especially during CNY). It's the same red tie that my brother wore to a CNY gathering a few years ago, so I put it on again for this one as well.

That's the fob on the end of the chain. It's a gold, sealing-stamp (unengraved, so it's in mint condition).

I decided to go a little Bold today (something I don't often do).

The jacket is a late 40s number (39 Union tag, no maker label) in a really rich chocolate color-on-color herringbone. It almost has purplish undertones in certain lighting.

The label on the tie reads, 'Imperial Cravat, exclusive with Younker's Man's Shop'. (I like that it's called a man's shop.)

I should have gotten a better picture of the pants. They seem to be 50s to me, and have a scaly brown and tan pattern with subtle red stripes.

The hat is a Mallory Twenty I just picked up.

I generally prefer fashions that predate the Bold Look, but I thought this was a decent find.

Well I have to say the Bold look works on you very well. :eusa_clap And in that Lighting I thought the coat was sort of purplish. Very well executed to be sure.
You may want to try that style more often.

Stunning outfit SM, as others have said you carry the bold well. That tie is amazing and on first sight i thought the coat was purple/maroon (kindof wish it was now that i know better ) How nicely you pulled it all together.

^^Both ensembles look good, Gene, although I prefer the former with/without the overcoat. (I actually like that bow tie.) Nice furniture, and I like the cat!

Well, here's a rare view of Widebrim in casual clothing, after going to Chinatown for lunch, and forgetting that the town was celebrating Chinese New Year (which=blocked-off streets, which=crazy traffic). Nothing is vintage, save the Norton sun cheaters (they're green-tinted, in case you can't tell); the fedora is a cheap Jaxon wool model, but I like it. Sorry for the less than desirable lighting.
