First time I heard this tune on the radio was back in the mid 60s.
I was driving from Merced to San Diego on a weekend pass. Mostly
feeling homesick.
Never heard of Willie Nelson before.
I actually thought the DJ had picked an amateur from the street to
fill in the time spot for the program.

Just a voice and guitar...but such was the feeling at the time that I called
the station wanting to know more about this singer who made me cry
with his lamenting sounds.
