Nat Shilkret and the Victor Orchestra

Most of us who are fans of vintage music are familiar with Nat Shilkret's recordings of the iconic dance music and popular songs of the 1920s and 30s, but that was only a part of his prodigious output as Victor's musical director from 1926 to 1932. In addition, he also made numerous recordings for Victor's ethnic and foreign markets. These two very unusual recordings were originally produced for the Japanese market (date unknown -- though I'd venture to guess 1929 or 30). Interestingly, Nat Shilkret's name is transliterated into Japanese as "Natto Shirukuretto." Today, Japan Victor (founded in 1927) is known throughout the world as the electronics giant JVC (Japan Victor Company).

If memory serves me, it was 1968, the year this song came out, Tom T. Hall wrote it. He is famous for his singing and songwriting for those who don't know. Ironically enough, after I posted this, I heard it on my way home from work lol

Ha, I remember when that came out, Tom! I also recall her singing it on some TV program; I think that she wore a mini-skirt and high, white boots...Oh, heck! Just watched the video, and that may be it right there!

Slightly OT: I'm crazy about this song:

...but I've searched high and low and cannot find the name of it. If anyone could tell me, I'd really appreciate it :)

I listen to a little of everything but post-1980 rock and country, with a few rare exceptions. Here is one I keep coming back to. I love Iris DeMent and here she is backed up by the incomparable Emmylou Harris. You might remember the song from the last episode of Northern Exposure.

I've never been smart enough to figure out how to get the video to show up in my post. Sorry.
