Heard the beginning of this as the credits rolled on an episode of "The Bear". Been a long time since I spun that album. The YouTube versions all seem to be lacking in sonic quality for some reason.

I’ve been listening to JJ Cale for 30+ years. One of my favourites is Clyde. Something popped up on my Facebook page today about how Waylon Jennings made the song famous. I‘d never heard his version, so I put it on…

It’s okay, but I far prefer the original. I also wondered why Jennings had decided to change the lyrics. I was super surprised to discover that I had been mishearing it for 30+ years. Funny thing is that I prefer my misheard lyrics. If he was still alive, I think I would write to JJ Cale and suggest that he change the first line to “Clyde plays a licky tricky bass”!

I always preferred the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s version to Sammy Davis Jr, but listening to Nina Simone’s version for the first time, this may br the best of the lot.
