Western, anyone?

If it wasn't for the fires, I'd move to California for the half year of summer.

I can add other reasons besides the fires but I won’t. I am jealous of the weather though

Tatton Baird posted this nice Western with what looks like a beautiful naturally dyed quill hatband. The amount of work that would have gone into this piece, a true one-off.

It would sure dress up & exceed the value of this Akubra Territory I'm looking for a ribbon or hatband for.,

Politics, taxes, earthquakes, fires, and the price of real-estate, did I mention mud slides. I loved Ca. at one time, several years ago, but it has changed dramatically in the last 20 years. The central valley and northern Ca. are about the only parts left that I would consider now. Actually, I'm just fine in Missouri but I have spent a large part of my life in Ca.. I worked for a moving company in Mt View Ca. [S. bay]for several years so the bay area was my home away from home.

My spin on the Highwayman, a 20’s/30’s inspired dress western by Michael Gannon; a la HurricaneJack. Mr G did a wonderful job, I really enjoy wearing this hat.

This is a fairly recent thrift store purchase. The consensus from a few others is that it’s a 1920’s (or thereabouts) Stetson that had the sweatband replaced, and was stretched from 7 1/8 to 7 3/8, sometime in the 1930s or ‘40s. It’s got a 4 7/8” brim and a 6 1/2” crown. I was incredibly happy to find it at my local thrift store for $1! Also, I couldn’t believe it fit me. The only things wrong with it were the ribbon was detached on one side and needs to be re-tacked as well as tacking the rip on the ribbon. Any additional thoughts on age are appreciated. Thanks for looking!

Creases get changed thru the yrs. I was able to identify my Stetson Tommy Grimes by starting with a list of big brim Stetsons with brim binding from that era. There aren't that many. Then work the list down by brim & ribbon width, & crown height.

I was also able to identify & match a horsehair hatband that had been put on over top of the ribbon from the same era.

Dunlap vented derby sold at the St. Louis Clothing Co. in Sedalia, MO. The tag is written in pencil, so the flash makes it difficult to read. But it states: 7 1/4 Lot 20152 Block 109 5 3/4 Finisher 22 The sweatband is reeded. Binding and ribbon are in very nice shape. Felt looks like it has...

I have not posted for a while but thought I would share this hat that I gave a good brushing to yesterday. I got it a couple of years ago to replace my long lost Resistol Navy riding hat........I do not remember the crease it (this new hat) originally had (probably a damn "rancher" crease)..........anyway....

Here is the hat, a Bailey Premier with a really nice roan sweat in Navy (like my old Resistol), it has a 6 1/2" Open Crown, and a 3 5/8" brim. I put a slight upward flange (kind of like an OR) and a DEEP center crease. I can hardly resist a 6 cord! ;-)

And here is where it usually resides........

I found it completely irresistable not to place it on this bust!
