I have not posted for a while but thought I would share this hat that I gave a good brushing to yesterday. I got it a couple of years ago to replace my long lost Resistol Navy riding hat........I do not remember the crease it (this new hat) originally had (probably a damn "rancher" crease)..........anyway....

Here is the hat, a Bailey Premier with a really nice roan sweat in Navy (like my old Resistol), it has a 6 1/2" Open Crown, and a 3 5/8" brim. I put a slight upward flange (kind of like an OR) and a DEEP center crease. I can hardly resist a 6 cord! ;-)

Tatton Baird posted this nice Western with what looks like a beautiful naturally dyed quill hatband. The amount of work that would have gone into this piece, a true one-off.

I do like these. I was watching a vintage piece from around 1890/1900 what was at at a large Western auction. I had a early bid in and probably would have gone higher than the winning bid (although who knows where that would have ended up), but the neighbor stopped by and I got involved in a project with him and forgot to tune in at the time the hat band came up for live bids. Dang it ...

At 1" wide, that is some detailed work. This was the catalog text:

The lot features an outstanding porcupine micro quillwork hat headband from the Northern Plains Native American Indians, dating to circa 1890-1900. This is some of the finest micro quillwork we have ever offered, showing immense detail and a wonderful geometric diamond pattern in natural cream and dyed pink, red, orange, yellow, and tan/brown/grey. The piece is constructed on old red trade cloth with velvet old black trade cloth ends, sewn on one side of a button clasp (the other side is missing). The piece has the original museum tag sewn on the back, which reads “G-77-2137-c-s”. Provenance: From the Sherbrooke Seminary Museum collection Amérindiens des Plaines du Nord. The piece was sold directly from the Seminary Museum through Encheres Champagne out of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, along with many other deaccessioned museum pieces. Measures overall 24.25” L by 1” W.

THAT was one nice hatband!!!.....to bad.....I too have lost auctions under simular conditions of getting involved in a project and forgetting.....:-(

Just received a Resistol Roundup Collection hat today. Not sure on the vintage but it seems that it is a little bit older style of liner from what I could find in the Resistol thread. It's not a bad hat just not sure the style suits me. I wanted to try a western hat but I think the outback style suits me better. I will probably send this one back out the door as I'm not sure it would get much wear.

Nice hat. Canyon is a great color. @Joao Encarnado has/had a website devoted the the Stagecoach hats…might be worth your time to see if it’s still around?

The similarity to the old style Byer-Rolnick liner but with the B-R branding iron in the forehead area ( & the printed snake hatband) makes your hat an early 1970's. Under new ownership the liner was soon changed to the Resistol Westerner & all references to B-R or Byer - Rolnick was dropped.

Yeah it does seem to be a pretty nice hat, just not sure it's my style.

After. Byer-Rolnick sold Resistol ~1968. The era of BR-30's etc was short-lived before the Resistol Westerner. Your hat has nothing to do with the Resistol Stagecoach.

Sorry for the bad information. I saw the “Roundup” and my mind just went to the Stagecoach series of hats. Sounds like you got the right info from Jack.

I think you wear it well and you should stick with it and see it you don’t warm to it.

Very kind of you to say, it's a profile I'm not accustomed to and I'm not sure I'm a fan of the size. I have posted it for sale on the bay already, if it sells that is more money to explore other hats, if not maybe I'll give it another chance. I appreciate everyone's help!

PMM Western Wear, Denver, Colorado. It has all the hallmarks of being made by Resistol. I bought it as a donor hat for a project. The forest green color is hard to capture accurately, but it’s a hue I love.

I hope the six cord ribbon is long enough to be reused once the hat is sized up.

Feeling a little country today with my private label (probably Resistol) dark Sage "TRAILBLAZER as "Styled by Peters" and sold at "The Corral" in Tyler. I love the red lining and sweat bow in this....I wish the dogbone crease with counter dents showed up better....it is higher and tighter than it looks in the photo.
