I recognized the Lonesome Dove characters, but I Googled the spelling! I believe you're right about Brokeback Mountain. McMurtry also wrote "The Last Picture Show." It's worth watching.

Fleming's Vaqueros Hat

4-1/8" matching bound edge brim and 4-1/2" telescope crown. Matching 1/2" grosgrain ribbon w/ bow under the studded leather belt band. Full 2" sweatband with taped seam and pleated and detailed monochrome liner (Could be silk). Arts and Crafts Style address for Fleming's in Long Beach, CA. Can't find any history and Google Maps shows the entire neighborhood has been levelled for new construction. Olive Green/Brown color and very soft felt that has firmness yet isn't entirely stiff.

"Modern" Resistol Clear Natural Beaver Diamond Horseshoe 75

Wow! Some beautifully soft and finely finished Beaver Felt. However it is quite stiff and they could have splurged on a bit nicer sweatband. The seller had the box and receipt from an entirely different hat. I think this is a 75th Anniversary(2002) Resistol and doesn't have any "X's" on the labeling, just the Clear Natural Beaver Seventy-Five.

That is much older than 2002 if my memory serves me.
I recall that being a hat from early seventies.
The Diamond Horseshoe was Resistol's premium hat before the X races began that led to 100X then 500X and finally 1000X being the top of the line.
The diamond horse shoe pin is missing but Diamond horseshoe hats originally had a hatpin stuck through the knot in the two cord ribbon. I don't know that the stones were ever real diamonds but there were rhinestones around the rim of the horsehoe.

I have a diamond horseshoe but it does not bear the seventy five that yours has and mine was a purchase at the Resistol outlet in Garland TX twenty or more years ago.

Some diamond horseshoes I've seen also had 20X stamped on the sweatband.

That is nice one. How does the felt feel?

They still seem to have a 15X in the catalog and there was a 25X mentioned in 2005($499.00). I did see a box with the 75 on it that the seller claimed was a 75th anniversary http://www.goantiques.com/detail,resistol-silverbelly-75th,1934785.html, they may well have been wrong. Fortunately, no sign nor any hint of marks from the rhinestone horseshoe described for the current model. It is amazingly soft and smoothly finished to a high standard and color uniformity. Some major time was definitely spent on pouncing. It has a bit of a dip at one side of the brim and is quite resistant to adjustment otherwise in perfect condition.
