Vintage Spectator Shoes

It's officially the last day of summer, so the last of my vintage Spectators are loaded in their shoe bags & boxed up for the winter. These are some of my fave's.

Stenchever's Captoe Spectators circa late 1930's. Note the spade sole... less severe than some of my others, but it's there nonetheless.

Unusual treatment on the heel counter with the different coloured brogueing detail. Me likey.

Interesting about summer isshi because it has started in Sydney this week already.

Hey, you cleaned them up nicely! I'm glad someone gets to enjoy wearing them. My wife enjoys seeing me wear my vintage shoes and suits, but when I originally bought these she liked them, but not on me. Can you believe it? I even showed her with a nice matching vtg brown 1940s suit and she said "Nope". So there you go Isshinryu101! Enjoy!!

Wives can be troublesome on the subject of spectators. For most people they are a bit "out there" so males besporting spectators/co-respondents are seen as peacocks by spouses and chastised suitably as that role is reserved for female members of the household....IMHO of course.

I might have a friend across the river who might be interested in this shoe, but I have no idea if it is skin, printed leather, vinyl, naugahide, copolymer, ethylene vinyl...the list can go on, but I'm tired of looking up synthetics. I don't want to send them until I know they are actually made of something that occurs on this planet in living form. Here are the shoes:

What makes that a french box toe? Almost all my Finnish 30's shoes have a similar toe.

You'd have to ask the writers of Florsheim's 1930s wholesale catalogs. They always described it as a "French box toe". Oh, and they called spade soles "custom extension soles". The term "spade sole" didn't appear in their catalogs.
