Yesterday, I came across these pictures of a cool man riding in leather. No idea who he was, but the jacket was familiar to me. And that Indian... man, what a presence!

Vaughn Monroe (October 7, 1911 - May 21, 1973) was a singer, trumpeter and big band leader, most popular in the 1940s and 1950s. Wikipedia

As a Cal-Leather enthusiast, I bet that jacket is one of their LAPD, just like the one James Dean wore in his photos. Visible paperclip as zipper pull, btw.

Great image - I assume you are referring to the fuel prices posted on the sign - watch and weep indeed. I remember that gasoline was about .25 cents per gallon back in the early 70's. Time flies as have the prices - of everything!

The following photo accompanied an obit in the local paper for a man named Donald Reinhart. There were no details in the obit which might give a clue to the photo, unfortunately, or anything else about the man's life. Interesting old jacket, though.
