They have been selling for years under different Ebay usernames. They used to get a lot of German 30s/40s leather jackets. The photo setup is a giveaway.

I know the seller from buying a jacket and admiring a lot of them. I have bid in a few though.

Mine was very smelly and reeked of old and when handwashes the leather just was full of mould. Got unlucky with it, it was a black german crosszip .

My guess is they still have people picking for them from bales, those creases are recognisable feom being folded and pressed somewhere tight.

There’s a french dealer called eureka something that show pics hunting clothing bales. I imagine there’s nothing like what Himel used to find back in the day but I’m sure some gems still appear.

Pricing in Vintage Leather is difficult because there are often few or no comparable and scant information on some Brands

In this case I think Langlitz is comparable. I see Langlitz in Ralphs-Pugh jackets.

What would a near mint 1948 Horsehide Langlitz sell for?

I saw a green label, early langlitz HH, complete full rig, sell for $5K. I think the buyer actually got a very good deal. It looked time capsule new (at least from the photos). The kind of horse they just don’t make anymore. Can’t be duplicated.

I was thinking of Himel also. The Two jackets above are as nice a vintage jacket as you find on the market. The Black long coat is remarkable in condition and I will say rarity. I've seen several makers in Japan do this style. My Stanhouse is very similar. They sold two recently I would like to have owned, but I can't own them all. The were both in excellent original condition.

You may be right. This is the back of my Horsehide Ralphs-Pugh. As fine a Horsehide as I've had my hands on, old or new. This jacket is c.1950, they had been making leather garments since 1935. No photo enhancement.

You do have a good eye for the Pugh! I had seen this jacket but until your comment I had not put 2+2. I found a labeled RP from c.1940 with the same back design. The front is different with a Cig pocket no Flap and a zipped pocket no snap, flannel lining.

Both have the stitched outline for the "D" pocket. I see this on Block jackets too.

The jacket I have coming in tomorrow has a similar back.

The leather on this jacket looks like their Steerhide. Too bad the collar is so chewed up,

Yep, it’s very similar to mine. The side adjusters are a giveaway for me.

Yes I have seen this beauty! Mine is also a Sportclad. I have seen more of his jackets on yahoo Japan. He has even more of these short Wool half belt, some from the late 30s. Too small and very expensive. There was a Black Bear short wool on ebay lasts week.. It was in England. I saw it on first appearance and ask for numbers. It was probably a 40. Absolutely Fine. Listed at $695 with offer and sold within a couple of hours. I posted the pics when I find them.

I would not consider this an original it's a Schott made jacket made for Beck based on an original Schott jacket. Similar to what Cal did and Buco also did for Sear under the Alstate label. I would rather obtain the original Schott jacket I not sure what Schott model # but 428 comes to mind

I’d like to just see this jacket. I’d never spend that much, and in all honesty it doesn’t seem all that robust and built to some insane degree of perfection. But you never see these in this good of shape. They have become so rare. And so many jackets over the years have been based off this model. Sooo many. So it would be cool just to see it, try it on and say that was cool.

I apologize for the poor pictures, though I would share this jacket but its currently owned by someone on facebook marketplace!

I recognized the CHP design right away, but could not figure out the maker. The chest pocket zippers are Talon diamonds, which led me to estimate 1950s. Some more googling finally led me to a classified for a Californian Sportswear CHP, and I think I have found the maker.

I am considering buying it and trying to restore it to some degree. It has certainly seen some use, and I fear there may be parts of the jacket that are too far gone. But the seller may not even want to ship the item, so we'll see.

I will have to get my Schott book out and research this jacket. I don't follow Schott jackets. The older ones do not come up often.

Buying vintage does take some investigative work. You certainly have done that. California Sportswear is one of my favorite companies. Their leather jackets are quite nice. I like the badge still attached.

I have to buy my jackets with pictures and descriptions, sometimes good and sometimes bad. The original collar on this jacket is a plus. Obviously has been worn and has much sunburn on the shoulders.

Certainly like to know more about it,. like is the zipper working, how is the leather on upper arms and shoulders. These are the weakest areas for vintage jackets, Sun and stress of hanging create weakness.

Sometimes you just have to buy them with little information.

It absolutely is. I believe what @jonbuilder meant is. Schott was making their own version of this jacket. As well as making them for Beck. So if given the choice he would rather have the Schott. Since it’s the “original.” But the Beck is legit.
