Vintage CHP Horsehide Jacket

Hello everyone!
My name is Jack and a new member to this fantastic forum!
I am on a hunt for my first vintage leather jacket (original).
I have always been intrigued with the CHP leather Jackets (50’s?) with the mouton removable collars
However in doing some research prices vary a lot (have checked mostly ebay).
My concern to buy something authentic (not fake)
Do you know the best place i can buy except ebay? Possibly to speak to someone to guide me as well regarding the jacket?
Thanks a lot
Jack

Welcome to TFL Jack!
there are a lot of options when it comes to the CHP style. It might help to know where in the world you are located and approximately what is your budget?
If you are looking at reproductions then Lost Worlds makes a very nice one in heavy horsehide and you can add a snap on collar if you like. This is a very nice jacket, but it is also a very expensive jacket.
If you were looking at vintage and you are lucky enough to find a Cal Leather jacket that fits you then that is another way to go.

Welcome to the forum. I personally like Cal's CHP. The challenge would be your size. If you are patient, you will find one here. There are other choices like trojan and Californian, but they are more expensive. In terms of value, Cal is the best choice. Lastly, there are others such as tauburs which is an outstanding jacket. Modern jackets such as Johnson leathers and golden bear are winners in my book.

A friend of mine gave me his jacket for a day during a ride out back in 2009

Loved it ever since but do not know the manufacturer / brand

I am attaching some pictures if anyone can help

Apologies for the not so good quality but had to screenshot them from a video

Lacovos - welcome to FL - if I failed to mention that earlier.

That jacket you got to wear back in 2009 is very unique and special. I have not personally seen such a collar - perhaps @photo2u may know of that, which does look detachable. That jacket would quite certainly be an original. Being a straight zip, with windflap, with the police badge holder, gives more details.

I think I have managed to freeze another pic from the video :) Showing the collar

Yeah, that looks like a very nice straight-zip CHP vintage motorcycle cop jacket. Thick leather. I have not seen many of those with wind flaps. Maybe TFL experts can chime in. Anyway, if you hang around the Classifieds section you are bound to find some nice ones. Again, most come without the mouton collar. Those which do command higher prices. But you can make a mouton collar yourself or have someone make it for you if your dream CHP jacket comes without one.
