Folks,

It has been a VERY long time since I have posted on The Lounge. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a thread to talk about their vintage cars. Also I wonder if anyone would be interested in a thread about part requests. What do you folks think?

I'll start it off. I have recently acquired a 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe Club Coupe.

It has the original P15C engine in it, was manufactured in Detroit, MI and has a complete original dash. It is my hope to restore her to her former glory. She does drive and after the brake and suspension shop is done, it will drive like a dream.

Great idea for a thread, FedoraGent. I know there are several old car owners/drivers here. I bought a '48 Plymouth Special Deluxe just over a month ago, and already several folks here have given me some great advice.

Now you have my attention. I don't own a vintage car but I do build large scale rods, customs and classics mostly in 1/8 scale. I do a fair amount of scratchbuilding and many times need pictures of the real parts for reference. I think this would be a fantastic thread. A lot of good stuff can show up here. Here's a picture of my 1:1 retroized PT Cruiser I call Pee Wee Kroozer. Unfortunately, I can't afford a good vintage car and because of physical disabilities I can't maintain the car. I know mine is second best but it's what I got.

Here's a couple of pics of a 1/8 scale Olds Rocket I was scratchbuilding until it fell off the table and blew apart.

I believe that I saw this at John in Covina's picnic a couple of years ago. The Buick is beautiful. I knew there were threads but some are dead and alot are all over the place.

Hey, Silver Dollar,

I like that front end treatment of the Cruiser! I've got a PT Cruiser as well, a 2004 base model. There was a time when I wanted to do something similar to get rid of the modern headlights and get something like what you have. Those photographs in the link are a bit old, though. Because of where I live now and the job I currently have where I spend a great deal of time driving mine is in dire need of some TLC. It has passed the 130,000 mile mark. I doubt I'll be doing any major mods to it at this point.

I, too, would like to have a vintage car but it's not something that's going to happen any time soon. Sometime in the future, though...

Some very nice cars and model work, here. I think this thread is a great idea!

My classic is newer than this forum's scope, but it is a classic, none-the-less, and I look forward to coming here often.

Mine is one of only 22,101 four-door Newport Customs that Chrysler made for '67. Here are a couple photos of it.

It has a 383 V8 with a 2BBL caruretor (developing 270 hp), air conditioning and autronic eye. The color is Mist Metalic Turquoise and although it could be ordered for other models, the matching green interior, lower body side trim (with over 1000 chrome accents) and trunk handles are exclusive to the Custom. The car is decorated with no fewer than fifteen gold crown medallions; three on the grille, three on each front fender and three on each front door interior trim.

Under the dash, there is a center convenience drawer with a slide-back cover that exposes a compartment that, when opened is, according to the sales brochure, "just big enough for a pack of cigarettes." Naturally, the drawer also houses the lighter and two ashtrays.

My classic.... 1952 Pontiac Chieftain "deluxe". I bought it because the hood ornament lights up. It's currently awaiting a head to toe fixing up. It was my daily driver for many years and loads of fun to park at the mall ;)

Hey FedoraGent. Scratchbuilding is where you build a model using only raw materials like sheets of styrene plastic, sheets of brass or some other medium. The model is not made from a kit. The parts are shaped with various blades, drill burs and sometimes even small machine tools like mills or lathes. It's really not as difficult as it looks. it just takes time, patience and a lot of good reference pictures of the real things. That's why I posted the pictures. Hopefully, some members will post some custom made parts or cars that I can use for reference.

Hey Tango Yankee. I put the new front end on because I just about tore the old one off. In the parking lot where I used to work, there was a concrete block at each parking space. One day, I parked at one that had a piece of rebar sticking out that I didn't see. I was able to park o.k. but when I backed out after work, the piece of metal got caught under the front bumper and pulled the bumper part loose. Instead of getting it replace by the dealer, I added the custom front end and the flames. I got the parts from California Cruisers but I would not recommend them for parts or service. According to one PT Cruiser club site, they've had a number of legal problems.

My heap’s a bit new for here (1961), but my pile of old Ford (T ‘n’ A) bits is always growing, so someday I might have an all-‘32-and-earlier gow job to look at.

I like hot rods and customs, when they’re done right, but I’m very happy to see so many loungers un-ratting some oldies. I cringe whenever I see an otherwise decent car sprayed flat black with some skinny whitewall radials and a set of Moon discs screwed on.

I love vintage cars, I've had a few (considering I'm 19) My first car was a 1960 Bel-Air, then I had a 1958 Delray, and right now I have a 63 Impala, and a 79 Buick Electra (both are for sale) And drove around in my pa's Hot Rod Model A, 57 Chevy, 80 Corvette, and 52 ford Pickup while in high school.

Here's a 230 Flattie six I'm building for a customer's 59 Plymouth. He brought it to me because I have the original Flattie in my 57 Plymouth. I'm one of the few guys that mess with Forward Look era cars that will touch a Flattie. Some reason, once you get past 1955, no one wants to keep the Flattie in the car.

I won’t say I wouldn’t touch a flathead six in a Forward Look car, but being as I have a 440 V8 in search of a worthwhile home, it might be tough...

I put a 440/Auto. from a 1968 Charger (wreaked) in a 1940 Dodge coupe with a 1968 Dart rear end and had to make a fire wall for it to fit and all I can say is: much motor and not enough car, but it was fun till I traded it for a stock/restored 1941 Buick Super coupe that was more like me.
