BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE 1960s TOPCOAT.... POSSIBLY CASHMERE, AND WITH HANDWORK THROUGHOUT!
Originally sold by Moe Serchuck, Inc., of 135 Fifth Avenue in NYC's Flatiron District.
c. 42, 44. Measurements:
Chest: 24
Sleeve: 27
Shoulder: 19 1/4
Length: 42 1/4
Moe Serchuck, Inc., was located at 135 Fifth Avenue in New York's Flatiron District, and advertised itself as offering "Uptown Clothes at Downtown Prices".
This wonderful coat shows that they made good on this promise--at least with respect to the "uptown" quality of their clothing!
Although there is no fabric content listed the cloth from which this is cut is so soft and with such a beautioful hand and drape it is likely cashmere.... although since this isn't certain I've priced it as though it were wool.
The coat is cut as a classic single-breasted topcoat with a three button closure. (All the buttons are original and intact.) Unusually, it lacks an outer breast pocket-an absence that gives this coat an extremely elegant and uncluttered silhouette. Almost certainly made in the 1960s judging by the styling it gives a nod to the increasing influence of classic British tailoring with two slanted hacking pockets on the front. It also features ornamental cuffs.
This coat is half-canvassed and fully lined in a wonderful 1960s lining that features stylized versions of Roin's The Thinker--likely a custom request. It has two deep interior pockets, and a single center vent. It also features wonderfully narrow 1960s labels, and features hand-done pick stitching throughout--on the lapels, the placket, and the flaps of the pockets.
Although it does not carry a Union label Serchuck was a Union shop, and so this was Union Made in the USA.
It is in excellent condition.
Asking just $75, or offer, boxed, shipped, and insured in the USA. A bargain for a coat of this provenance and quality!
