Vanson with yet another streetwear collaboration, it is a very expressive style but can't help but admire all of the insane paneling work done by Vanson, WOW!

I hate everything about it.
The baggy oversized fit, the logos for a terrible brand Supreme, and the use of Racing sponsor badges on a fashion piece.

I can forgive the fit because a person should be able to size down, and without the awful Supreme branding on the sleeves it would no look out of place as a racecar drivers jacket.

This Vanson from Talladega nights was cool.

I loved it at first and impressed with it on a technical level but it's odd that Supreme went with what, as far as I can see, is a spider emblem Spider-Man has never worn.

I've heard of Supreme and seen some examples of their collabs, like this one, but I've got no clue why it's such a terrible brand.

What's awful about it?
To me they attach a huge premium markup to everything just because their logo is on it.
The vast majority of their products are not in any way special aside from the fact that it's red and has their logo on it.
You are literally paying a bunch of money for their logo on a product you can otherwise buy for significantly less, and people are jumping through hoops to do so just to be a walking billboard for the company.
I'm sure this jacket is more than just a standard piece, but I'm betting that Vanson was going to offer this regardless and would have sold it for less ( still expensive I'm sure ) than SUPREME charges for their logo.

Supreme offers a rebrand of a $50 ( already overpriced ) Krappy made in china HOTO tool set for $300, and people are paying that much just for the red color & their logo.

Ah ok, thanks.

I misunderstood you I think.

I was thinking there might be something somehow truly awful about them, but you meant they're expensive.

They certainly do look to be plenty of money, but then a lot of things look like plenty of money to me. I've never really understood the appeal of paying extra to have a big logo on clothes*, but horses for courses.

*that said, I used to buy band t shirts at gigs, and they were a good bit more expensive then buying a plain old Fruit Of The Loom t would have been. So I'm a hypocrite there I suppose.

I think if you are buying a bands shirt at a gig then you're giving the money and the support to a band you like, here, you'd be supporting, erm, the VF Corporation.

I don't just mean that they're expensive, but that they are one of those companies that literally just sells a logo for a premium.
$300 for a low quality item that's already overpriced at $50.
I can say you're just paying for the Nike logo ...etc which you largely are with everything except their standard athletic shoes, but in this case it literally just is a logo you're paying for on top of a standard items price tag.

They did a " Collaboration" with one of my favorite American tool manufacturers, and charged nearly double just for the red color and their logo.
It was still the same high quality product, but they had their markup and of course like most limited products people will ****** multiples up to sell for even more on the secondary market.

I think T shirts are a different story, because you're showing support for people who actually create ( hopefully if they're any good ) then spend a lot of time out on the road pouring sweat into a show to please their fans.

I very much doubt that Vanson was going to get the rights to Spider-Man and make this jacket.

Also what exactly about the jacket in the OP is "baggy oversized fit"?
The sleeves look like duffle bags to me.

And maybe Vanson wouldn't have made this jacket on their own ( who really knows), but in my mind that speaks more to the negatives of the SUPREME brand .
Super heroes, racing sponsor logos, and the name of a company that sells nothing more than their logo don't remotely go together.

You seem to have a problem with the brand. But what makes you think they only sell their logo? I don't really know the brand, but if you search a little, you'll find a website with a shop and their own clothes. To me, it looks like more than just selling logos.

The sleeves are fine. It’s a blouson; they look bizarre with skinny sleeves. It’s miles better than the Shinki sausage look once pushed here.

I like Spider-Man.

I’ve never had any particular interest in Supreme before, but they’re a strong partner of Vanson going back years. Vanson even has some of their stuff on display at their factory. I am actually somewhat interested in this jacket, though less so given they didn’t use one of the classic Spider-Man emblems.

Do you have some kind of personal grudge against these two companies? It reads like it.

I actually like the jacket, would like it more if it was maybe a symbiote suit colour maybe black and white similar to the bones. They have also a fully black one but I think that one doesn't show as much of the cool panelling as it would with more contrast. But also I don't see much wrong with the actual base jacket itself, it's one of the standard models that Vanson makes although not one I would choose myself, this on a Model B or the racing jacket similar to the Bones would be awesome to me.

My tastes are bit weird though because I like this jacket, also the Supreme branding is not so far off from something like the Vanson Star jacket that has "Vanson" up the sleeve, I don't mind either that or this because I love the way they cut and stitch the panels it looks cool to me. I already like the Bones and the Star jackets, I feel like this Spiderman is just taken up a notch in terms of the panelling although I would like it better on a different model. Either way I prefer it greatly to other Vanson collaborations like the Aime Leon Dore one which had artifically distressed leather.

Also to equate Supreme to just selling logos is unfair, they have original designs and stuff but that usually doesn't grab the attention of the masses, it's the logos and stuff which is what sells, same as Gucci or other luxury brands. The most popular stuff is not the most creative stuff, it's the most basic and watered down recognisable logos and stuff. Supreme is not my favourite brand but it's unfair to equate their entire brand to just their box logo and random tools and object collaborations.

Symbiote colourway would be amazing. People would think it’s a bone jacket at first glance then realise the Spider-Man details.

They’re doing a second black on black Spider-Man jacket too, very similar design but more muted. I actually think this is really cool for what it is, the only thing I don’t like are the sponsorship logos on the front.

I think it would take some stones to actually wear it, I think you’d have to be pretty committed to the whole street wear vibe.

I don't think so really. It's the same energy as wearing a Spider-Man hoodie or something, just much cooler and with more presence.

This particular jacket isn't my taste but I recognise that Supreme have some genuinely interesting designs. Their previous work with Vanson was cool and I like some of their collaborations with Japanese brands in particular (e.g. Yohji Yamamoto).

I think they rightfully or wrongfully capitalised on their hype during the 2010s to make some truly gaudy products that simply waste resources (such as the crowbar, money *** etc.), but to a degree that's art and typical of the wider designer/fashion scene, like a lot of what Balenciaga and Vetements does/did.

An expensive and tasteless colostomy bag in leather; talent absent direction.

Maybe if I were 12... but then I wouldn't understand the performance patches as would also be the case w/ Spiderman. Arguably worse is the grossly huge references to a collaborative leech that was not part of the talent required to produce the jacket. No offense; this jacket is gross and appeals to a demographic that won't understand the sponsorship patches and won't be able to afford the jacket.

It is a tangible dichotomy and many years from now this will be an eBay relic. The ad will state that the jacket had few indications of wear and that it's very rare.
