You can order directly through Vanson with a one piece back panel. You can even provide horse hide (from Horween) and they’ll make the jacket for you. I personally prefer the C2 cut, but by that’s just me.
Yeah I actually asked them about that but then they ghosted me lol. Schott has had good customer service though. The c2 is a nice pattern also I just liked the 618 a bit more. I guess I can always get it tailored too

I find it’s just best to call them. I worked with Anthony and he was very helpful and responsive.

never been a fan of the flare that happens under the 618 with it's belt.
I love cross zips with belts, but the higher placement of the belt coupled with a skinny belt gives the 618 that flare at the waist and I do not dig it, mannnnnnn.
Vanson all day long for this guy.
If I'm falling off of my motorcycle, I want to be wearing my Vanson that day.

Yeah I’m going to return it. If I got it tailored it would probably fit well but that’s another $200 probably. I’m thinking of getting that new heat straps workhorse instead. I live in Chicago so I’d probably get more use out of a winter jacket anyway. I can always find a used perfecto. I don’t ride but I’d imagine you’d want something that doesn’t flare at the waist because this would let a bunch of air in

Absolutely spot on.i love my recently purchased 613 ,but more cold air shoots up the bottom of the jacket than any other m/c jacket I've owned. Terrific jacket, just not for use in cold, wet Scottish winters.

The leather is cool but yeah I’m definitely not happy with the cut. It’s made for someone who has a much wider waist

Circling back to the arm size discussion, I have found Schott to have slimmer upper arms and more generous forearms as compared to Vanson. Not sure if it is b/c Vanson tend to be a more purpose driven mc riding jacket or if we just have bigger arms here in MA then in NY ; ). In all fairness, I think the Schott arms look better when fully zipped with the fuller forearm.

I can't wear my Apple Watch under my Comet, but no problem under the 613.

Revisiting this thread to suggest a third option to those considering the C2 or 618: the Vanson Thunderbird.

Visually it is more similar to the 618. Pattern-wise the thunderbird is much superior to the 618 in my opinion. The thunderbird has greater range of movement and comfort in the neck opening, shoulders, chest, upper arms. The pocket layout of the thunderbird looks better in my opinion but is also more functional than the tiny unusable pockets on the 618.

Both C2 and Thunderbird are better value in my opinion compared to the 618. Vanson is still selling the Thunderbird in their medium weight hide for $555.

I do like Schott’s leather. But I’ve worn all three of these jackets and I would take a c2 or thunderbird in any leather over a 618. For me the pattern and fit are the most important consideration. And for my body the c2 and thunderbird pattern are just so much better than any of the schotts I owned.

I agree that the 618 pattern is not the best, but then again it can look good, especially unzipped or zipped with the buckle unfastened. It gives that iconic ’60s–’70s vibe (I know the pattern is much older, but the current version looks like something from the ’70s) that the C2, although it has a more flattering pattern, won’t give. The C2 feels more like a ’90s vibe to me.
