Today, 67 years ago the United States and Great Britain declared victory in Europe. May God bless all those Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen and Merchant Marines who sacrificed their lives for this great victory.

An interesting side note to this commeration was the fact that the Associated Press reporter Ed Kennedy filed the news on the day it happened in France on May 7, 1945. He was fired by the AP for filing the story due to the agreement that the story was to be delayed one day in order for the Russians to be able to "stage" their surrender ceremony on May 8, 1945 in Berlin.

Kennedy's book, "Ed Kennedy's War: V-E Day, Censorship, and the Associated Press" was finally published by his family on May 9, 2012 (Kennedy died in 1963) after the AP recently filed an apology to the family for the treatment of Ed Kennedy, an outstanding war correspondent. No, they were making like the Cavalry - you know, arrive at the last minute and save us all. You should be thanking them- otherwise today you'd be speaking German, etc.... lol

I am grateful to all the nations who fought valiantly and sacrificed tremendously so that we all can enjoy this privilege called freedom. It was not just a war fought alongside one or two nations, it was indeed a world war. The greatest generation the world has ever known came together and was determined that succeeding generations would not have to face this type of evil ever again on such a grand scale. So, where ever you, your parents or grandparents first entered the battle, I salute you and give you a great big HUAH!!!!
