I’m surprised I don’t see many of these, maybe distribution issues.

What’s everyone’s opinion on how they look?

It’s expensive I agree but half the price of a Freewheelers and less than RMC J100. Is it the bi swing back that bothers you?
Or are you not fond of the cafe racer mandarin collar types?

Meeeh, to me it looks like a J-100 with an action back.
I have never looked at a J-100 and thought to myself "that jacket needs an action back"...
You could argue that it has a few small details that make it different ( triple stitched arm/sleeve seams, french seams, double stitched chest pockets,) but to me it still looks like a modified J-100 and i prefer the simplicity of the J-100.

If i saw a used one for an amazing deal i might get the 666 just for a laugh, but as the owner of a J-100 i am not seeing enough differences to want both.

But i am also not a big fan of cafe racers to start with...

The McCoy is made with horsehide. But the small difference in leather doesn't justify the big difference in price. Plus with Schott there is always some type of sale and you can always get two different sizes and return one, for free.

You know, Your jacket is sweet. But, I have many originals that I gather from 30+ years of collecting. In most cases I paid sub 200 dollars for them. My family members got me a nice j100 type from GW. It has sat on my closet with out see too much light. One reason is the jacket is big on me, but the true reason why I do not wear it was how much they paid to get it for me. To be honest, black jackets are great but currently I am focusing more on the brown tones.

Well, preferences aside Toys McCoys jackets are made in very small batches so pretty hard to come by.

I don’t know also any western based shop that carries them so I think quite rare outside of Japan.

Almost all of them have cracks especially the collar, even the ones that seem to be in good condition e.g. clean lining barely worn. Schott's own version from the 60s looks much better than the Beck. The older Beck with large label seem to be better but they are very expensive now. I have not been able to find one with the right price. Any experience you care to share?

I agree on all points. Here's the one I sold last week:

-poor leather
-collar cracks
-shoulder panel cracks

I personally like the Reed brand. I have four in my size and one in size 46 with a cool #10 crown zip. The leather on the reed is a hair thicker than the average j100 of the same era. Also, I love the thicker and nice leather quality of lesco j100. You can find still some in NOS condition for sale at sub 400. I will put that lesco next to any of the sub 1k brands any times. The lesco has just as good leather quality, better hardware (#10 talon zips-main and #5 good quality talon in the pockets and sleeves). Also, there are some j 100 type cycle rider label made by schott that are constructed with top quality leather and good nickel hardware that can be found for about 120. Fine creek looks good but is 500$ more expensive and lacks that cool lining, brown stitching and brown zipper tape.
Edit* I do see that the fine creek has 1.8mm horsehide so that’s probably driving up the price. Definitely made for the tall slim guy. Size 46 has exactly 46” diameter with 27.5” back

I feel some of these Japanese brands are getting ridiculously overpriced.
RMC J100 is just about the most simple design out there at $2k.

Some of the Freewheelers incorporate extra details like French Seams, underarm gussets for movement, but they are pushing $3k

People are willing to pay it though but for that price it should be custom judging by all the terrible fitting models I’ve seen. People want to like them so bad that they overlook that they look better in a $800 Vanson

The exclusive $2.5k jackets hold their value very well. So if resale is factored in, then the gap gets smaller. For example, the $1.2k jacket rarely sells for more than $600 used, but people are fighting to pay $2.2k for a used $2.5k jacket. The net gap is still about $1k, but when the $1.2k jacket doesn't sell, then there is no gap.

Custom (tailored) jackets are very special. By nature they are not intended for resale as they would only fit one person, perfectly. Wide price range too. With expensive leather and multiple fittings, it can end up costing more than the OTR FW or RMC.

So I keep trying to convince myself that the Toys McCoy Beck 666 will fit in their biggest size 44xxL. New from Japan they are $500 less than a real McCoy

It’s so similar to my 5star in size just 1cm less p2p (59 vs60cm), 2cm wider in the shoulders 51 cm vs 49cm), and 4cm wider in the hem.
It’s my 2nd favorite Racer next to the Goodwear

I measure myself daily, it just depends on how high the arm holes are where they measured the p2p. Some people say you can sometimes get away with slightly less P2P if the shoulder is wider which would be the case here

A respected member has been extremely helpful and we think it would fit but it might be a little tight. I wear my jackets open so I can’t see myself walking around fully zipped. After we talked privately I just wanted a general opinion.

I’ve been told I have jacket fever(very true) but I sold 3 jackets Schott recently and the Beck is in my budget also and would allow me to have two very different jackets for the upcoming winter. I also fear they will no longer make them as they have 2 new single riders on the site.

I know some are not a fan of the actual jacket and know we all have different tastes Ofcourse that’s what makes us unique.
So really I’m just trying to figure out if I can make it work.

For reference my chest is right about 116cm and belt line with shirt tucked is 100cm

This one has virtually the same measurements, meaning short body/sleeve length for the xxl size.
They have a more traditional Buco looking one called Mchill Leathers but when you get into the largest size, the back is like 28”.

It appears that Toys McCoy is giving the people the option of a larger:wider jacket without assuming everyone that is bigger in the chest is also 6’3”

In a perfect world, these grail type jackets would have the option of short, regular, and long sizes.

I do know the Johnson motors id 60cm pit 2 pit vs Becks 59cm pit 2 pit

Im not experienced on action backs to know which is more effective. Do you think that the design of that back plus the under arm gussets will provide freedom of movement?

I like both collars but I wanted to save that design for a Goodwear j100 but I can’t seem to get a hold of the guy, I’ve emailed him from four different emails over three months and have not had one response to any questions..

Love the piping along those sleeve zippers but would miss that big #10 main zipper
I like the vented underarm gussets. Like the brass with brown liner.
Mixed feelings about the split center back and would miss the double stitching on the shoulders and the French seams down the arm.

I need to find the full measurements of the Johnson motors version, and Morfitt pictures, I wonder if it’s more narrow in the hem than the Beck 666 and if the arms are as wide.
This blog translated, the man mentioned that there is more room in the arms of the Beck which he says would be good for guys they go to the gym.

If you look at the comparison the Beck is the only one with some shape, the Freewheelers has sharp angled torso and the Real McCoy is a Real Box

Me too I like the slanted chest pockets better too. More functional and looks better imo. The horizontal ones everyone has a version.

The problem with the Made in Japan jackets is that they don't have the distribution channels in North America like they do in Asia. Sourcing these jackets is not easy.

Interesting piece of information about the leather used in these two models.
They say the leather comes from wild North American mustang horses then i think it is combination tanned after that.

For those of you more experienced with Active backs, these look distinctly different and I’m curious if they would feel or move differently,
Or is it just two ways of reaching the same goal
