Tips on sewing a ribbon?

I have a straw that came with an ugly brown ribbon so I bought a more appropriate black one that merely pins onto itself. The problem is, it keeps riding up so now I want to sew it into place.

Any tips on doing this to a straw hat? I only paid about $40 so am not that worried about "ruining" a really good hat. I "sorta" know how to sew so should I just put in a few stitches were the original brown ribbon was attached?

Thanks!

Just a couple of stiches in the same color thread should do the trick for you. If there is a sweat band, be sure not to sew through it, but keep the stiches low and closer to the brim. My 2 cents.

Thanks, fellers!

**UPDATE** Last night I used double-sided tape to keep the ribbon in place and then tossed in some stitches -- it worked swimmingly!
