Thoughts on Schott quality?

Cant speak of their leather stuff, although it seems over-priced to me, compared what else is available on the market. That said... I have two of their nylon Suka Souvenir flight jackets (MA-1 repros), and love them. One of them has a hole in the inside pocket, but otherwise decent quality.

Schott's nylons that I've seen are not always accurate to milspec, but very nicely made. IMO, if they did do milspec-accurate run of some well chosen models - the B15C, the MA1 1957, the Hunter MA1, say - they could give Buzz a fair run for their money. Unfortunately as things are for now this is just too much of a specialist market, I think, for a compamy aiming at the mass market the way Schott do. That said, all it really needs is one, very successful film from Hollywood to create the demand.... If it's not a total flop, Nomex-style CWU jackets should get a boost out of Top Gun 2, for instance.

I just got the email about the new red vintaged one star. Which is neat and all but i was more excited about the book release. They are releasing a One Star photo album. Its called One Star and will be out September 26th. For all the craziness Rin Tanaka and the others have stirred up with their books, I still love them and collect them. So I for one will be passing on the jacket, but cant wait to see the book. heres their synopsis.

Hi everyone. Sorry to bring back a nearly 2 year old thread, but I’m in the market for a leather jacket and I’m trying to decide between a Schott Raven P213 and an Aero STF Bootlegger. It seems as though the consensus back in 2019 is that a similarly priced Schott jacket won’t be as high quality as one from Aero - does this still hold true in 2021?

Do note that the p213 you're referring to is lambskin. That's more of a fashion jacket.

Thanks a lot for your insight Marc. I’m aware the P213 is lambskin and I’m ok with it. This jacket would be used as a fashion piece anyway.

Regarding Schott’s premium jackets - how do you know which ones are premium? Is that what the P in the style name stands for?

Ah, thank you, but unfortunately those don’t come in XS - I’m a pretty slim guy.

Also @Marc mndt you said the Schott jackets will be more comfortable - what do you mean? Like is their leather not as stiff at Aero’s or something?

Better patterns. Good patterns distribute the weight of the jacket evenly onto your body. They also allow a jacket to be fitted without being restrictive.

The P in the jacket identification refers to the perfecto line. The label on these jackets doesn’t say just Schott , they also say perfecto.
I have been looking at the Raven also. Schott has a store here in Los Angeles. I have tried it on three times. And walked away three times. I like the fact that it is a cross zip but rather conservative. Not a lot of metal, no epaulets , No belt. However the lamb skin is fairly thin. I was also concerned that if something splashed on it it would spot very easily. It almost seemed like a mall jacket. To be honest if it was a midweight leather rather than a light weight I would probably own it already. That doesn’t mean I will not ultimately end up getting one however. You are paying a lot for vegetable tanned leather. The 503 is the same jacket done in less expensive leather for about $700. However the 503 is available only in black and I wanted a brown jacket.

You asked about comfort. The Raven is 100% broken in the day you get it. It is made from a soft leather not a stiff leather. I found the jacket to be extremely comfortable. Perfect fit.

Are you located in Europe or America? My advice to you is, if you want quality without overpaying for it, it would be best if were to go with a local maker. US made jacket if you're in America or something from Europe if you're within the EU.

In regard to the 2019 (and earlier) consensus about the Schott vs. Aero quality, @Marc mndt is right on the money. Anything from high end Schott line is equal to Aero and the tailored fit offered by many makers has always, in my opinion, been overstated.

I owned a Schott Nixon jacket I got in a sale for less than half of the original MSRP. The fit has been excellent but the quality has not even been worth that reduced price imho.
The isolating material started diffusing the outside shell pretty soon, producing nice white pilling all over the jacket. Remarkable wear of outer shell between sleeves and body as well as fuzzing wristbands, all that within not a year of inexcessive wear.
So overall that jacket appeared to be not really convincing to me.

Schott Nixon? Textile jacket? That couldn't possibly be any less representative of Schott since it's just some whatever random sweatshop in China pumping these low quality garments out under Schott branding. It has literally nothing to do with Schott and I don't know why they continue to associate their name with that stuff. As you stated, the quality of these is really piss poor. I mean, I know it's a quick cash in but it really hurts the brand.
