I need to preface this post with the fact that I have a serious love/hate relationship with summer hatting. I love my felt fedoras for the cooler months, but don't dig the aesthetic of straw hats (to each their own) for the warmer ones. Enter the 8-panel linen cap.

The only caveat: I prefer an oversized aesthetic — see Beckham image below for reference (note: he's wearing a Lock & Co. Muirfield, reportedly) — and this significantly narrows my options.

After months of searching for an oversized baker boy cap for summer, I rolled with two from Thomas Farthing's "Cuban" collection: both white and blue. Here's a few images of them in the wild:

I'd love to know what everyone else thinks of Thomas Farthing's offerings, and more importantly, recommendations for similar makes and models from other hatters.

Those look good, not seen anything around that price point, most other options seem to be about four times the cost.

I did have a linen big apple cap from New York Hat co which was cheap but not well made.

I have a couple of eight-panel linen caps from Hepville, which are great. You'll find Hepville on Etsy. Bela does that one style of cap, and he does it very well. If you're asking for light natural coloured linens, though, I would either avoid the optional leather hatband, or ask if he can do one in undyed, natural leather. I say this only because I wore one of mine in stupid-hot weather in Singapore a couple of years ago, and I sweated some of the dye out of the leather and into the fabric. Not a massive problem (I'm probably the only one as notices when it's on my head), but....

Also have a very nice linen from Cordova, which is great - in the one-piece top, eight-dart cut. Unlined. Very nice in the hottest of hot weather.

Just placed an order for Thomas Farthing’s Ridgmount Baker Boy! Both attracted and a little intimidated by the pattern, was worried it’d look like a golf hat (ugh) but I think it’s a classy enough color combo and pattern to not have to worry about that.

I've been on their waiting list for at least 6 months. I'm interested in a few of their mid width caps.
