I prefer film -- given a choice, I prefer the tangible to the intangible.

Theatre organ or church organ?

Theater organ. I love a fruity Tibia, and then of course there's the Toy Counter. At the very least, though, a holy unified orchestral organ. those shrieking Baroque Trackers are so limited. great for Bach, not so good for Vidor , and forget about Katelby!

Maytag Wringer Washing Machine or an Easy Vacuum washer with Spin Dryer?

I have an Easy wringer, born and bred in Syracuse U. S. A. Those spin-dryer models look too fussy to maintain to me, and would frighten the cat.

Underwear always. It's windy downtown, and while I work in the exhibition business, I'm not at all interested in *that kind* of exhibition.

Upright. I live in a very small house, and the only way I could get away with a grand is to throw a table cloth over it and put it in the kitchen.

Raymond Gram Swing or Fulton Lewis Jr.?

Swing, for heaven's sake. Did you think that I was a Liberty Leaguer?

The spin dry Easy washers are so much less work, and are as reliable as all get out. They have the water and suds saving advantages of a winger machine, but require much less effort, and save a great deal of trouble on Tuesday when one is ironing.

Ironer (mangle) or ironing board?

Mangle. Makes ironing sheets a real pleasure, and there is nothing more comfortable than a bed made up with crisply-ironed cotton sheets. The only thing I use a board for is dresses with complicated pleatwork.

Icebox or refrigerator?

Electric refrigerator. currently using a GE CK monitor top' datind to around 1934 but will soon be replacing it with a "birdcage" D-2, a 1930 model, as soon as the machine gets back from the paint shop. I have a couple of X ( ball top) machines put back for emergencies, but am looking for a good two- door cabinet, for a few years ago I found a NOS, unused, working refrigeration machine for a two-door model in its original crate.

What do you use to store your food, icebox or Refrigidaire? Does the Iceman still call in Maine?

Cretonne or Marquisette at the windows?

Randolph Sutton -- Put Your Worries Through The Mangle

Mother, Mother, Mother bring the washing in
It's going on to rain
Let's sit round the kitchen bar
And sing this old refrain

Put your worries through the mangle
Like Mother does on washing day
When you're in an awful tangle
Just wash the blues away
Though the sun is shining through the window pane
When Mother hangs the washing out it always rains
Put your worries through the mangle
Like Mother does on washing day

Father has his dinner off the mantle shelf
On Mother's washing day
Does he worry? Not at all
You'll only hear him say

Put your worries through the mangle
Like Mother does on washing day
When you're in an awful tangle
Just wash the blues away
Though the sun is shining through the window pane
When Mother hangs the washing out it always rains
So put your worries through the mangle
Like Mother does on washing day

I have a 1945 Kelvinator -- the first postwar refrigerator, basically a retreaded 1942 model. I got it when I got married in 1988, installed a new thermostat, and it's been running continuously without a blip ever since. It will probably outlive me.

When I was four years old we moved into a house that had an icebox -- I can't remember if there was still an iceman then, but ice has never been too hard to find here. When I got older, I had it in my room for a while, and would get ice by the 25-pound block at the grocery store, and it'd last about three days in the summer and a week in the winter. I left it behind when I moved out on my own, and today it's back in the kitchen, where my mother uses it as a stand for her microwave.

Cretonne in the kitchen, Marquisette in the living room.

Blinds, 2-inch wooden slats, with matching cotton tapes.

Chicken, coated in egg, dredged in flour, and fried in Crisco.

Boiled or percolated?

Percolated most days, though for company we use a Silex.

My favorite chicken is stuffed and roasted, for it can make three good meals.

Egg Beater or Whisk?

Led variously by Rosario Bourdon, Nat Shilkret and Leonard Joy among others, Victor had, by far, the finest studio orchestra to back their artists. Leroy Shields who went on to compose much of the music for Laurel & Hardy, the Our Gang and other Hal Roach comedies was also a musical director for Victor.
