These Colors Don't Run... Or Do They?

How common is it for color to run - i.e. transfer to an underlayer, carseat, etc. - on a leather jacket?
It seems that while some Aero customers have had this problem, others have not. What about other brands?

Never had a problem with any of them, including Aero. When leather gets wet, the dye is more likely to run than when it is dry. That may be part of the "bleeding" problem. I know that some members here have complained of the problem. Not sure if the leather was wet or dry when it happened.

My Aero half belt in "Cordovan" ran like a track star, all over my nice dove-grey leather car seats. And, the stains are there to this day, even after dedicated efforts to remove them. And, no, it was not wet.

I got my Aero HH samples today in the mail, so I ran some preliminary tests. Taking a smooth, dry, white cloth to the following five colors, I found that these transfered color:

Brown FQHH :)rage: this was the color I was most interested in)
Cordovan FQHH
Vintage Cordovan Horse

These two did not:

Oil Pull Horse
Vintage Brown Horse

I also tested my four U.S. Authentic samples: none of them transferred color.

After these preliminary tests, I think that one could probably reduce the amount of color transfer by first buffing the horsehide, but even after buffing for a while the color would still rub off. I don't think this would bode well for car seats or shirt collars.

So, perhaps my next jacket will be in Oil Pull. The color is really growing on me... I will check, of course, that the sample I received is from the batch that would be used on my jacket.
