There are two young ladies at work who are chomping at the bit upon hearing of my pending divorce. As if I'll be ready to date immediately. Then again, I wasn't wanting to date anyone 11 years ago, until I was struck dumb by the sight of my present wife.

Someday perhaps I'll jump back into the game. Perhaps. Someday. Much rather that she be a dear friend first.

 What the heck kind of cologne do you wear around these gals?????

My boss said its 'cause I'm a stand-up guy. I've helped people in bad situations at work (taking out abusive boyfriends/husbands, fixing cars, etc), I'm not in debt, I cook, I clean. Pretty much boring though. lol

Those are all fine qualities to display and I dare say stands you in good stead in the eyes of others who will hold you in high regard.

I don't mind being single, but I finally got tired of dating. After awhile it just got to the point where I began to loathe going out with men I wasn't crazy about. Dating just to be dating is no longer fun. It seems to annoy men that I won't give them a chance, but if he doesn't have a chance, why bother? I don't want to be that picky, but I don't want to spend time with just anyone. [huh]

That's exactly how I feel. I am getting pretty old though and think it may be time to lower my standards just a little.

It seems to me that that's the only sensible way - take time to get to know someone properly first. Unfortunately, all this seems to achieve is that it makes a woman put a guy in the "friends box," release from which is impossible.

Can they successfully go from the bf box back to the friend box though? I would think it becomes far too uncomfortable at that point. And then you've lost a good friend.

Been there, done that--Edward's right on this one. Unfortunately, for me building a friendship's the only way to figure out if there's enough there for her to be "sweetie" potential...:(

Oh yes, my best friend for the last 12 years started as a friend, moved to bf, didnt work out as a bf and moved back over to friend and stayed as my best friend only. Much better there, actually. He's like a brother to me. I've a few have worked like that....darn them....it sucks. Well, at least I've kept some friends. Just don't have the joys of a bf any more.....:p
Hence, the ridiculously singleness of me :(

Well, that's the risk you run. In my experience, though, when a woman says "I don't want to risk our friendship", what she actually means is "I just don't find you attractive" and she's trying to be polite about it, little realising how transparent that really is. At least, I hope that's what's going on.

I don't know, it seems as though the plain jane friends want to jump your bones while the good looking one's make you work for it.
