Drumroll...I hope it fits!
Well it's a good thing you like a perfect fit. Man that's sweet. It fits just the way I want it to.
Good fit on you! I gave up looking at tag sizes on jackets, especially RM. I prefer to go by actual measurements of the specific jacket I am looking to get. I just went through this with a Steinbeck. I went off of the sizing on their website and even had a dear friend go to the Kyoto store and measure out a 40 and 42 for me. My measurements corresponded to their 42. When the jacket arrived it was too big. Too big as in the sleeves being at least 4” longer than what their own measurements for a 42 should have been. Shoulders too wide, etc. I switched to a 40 and it is one of my best fitting jackets.Very nice fit! Congrats!

Nothing beats trying the jackets on
I don't know about durability, but the hookless zipper on the Steinbeck is a giant pain in the a**. Love the jacket, but hate the (admittedly period correct) zipper. When ordering custom jackets, I stay clear of hookless zippers. I love the non-hookless NOS Talon, but the hookless are nasty.
I'm not sure i agree with the statement that RMC J jackets are "hipster jackets"...
They are probably the closest copy of the real thing you can find. The originals aren't as thick as most currently used FQHH.
Fit wise, they are very different. The J-22 is IMO the shortest and slimmest one. The J-24 is longer and wider and i think is labeled a size smaller (a size 40 J-22 would fit closer to a size 38 J-24).
The JH-1 was the only one of the three that actually fit me properly, both the J-22 and 24 were always too short, or too wide if i sized up enough to get necessary length.
The JH-1 was the one that felt the best to me, better length to width ratio than the other two.
I would definitely recommend you try before you buy, as no two RMC model fits the same IMO.
Considering how different the Stainbeck and J are, i would keep both!
I can only speak for my J-22 and I was told to size down. I did not. There's no way a size 40 would have worked. I prefer a little extra room in the upper part (with correct shoulders, sleeve...) and a size 42 fits me great. I'm a 42 inch chest, 5,9. Sleeve lenght is perfect after creasing and I've probably lost around an inch after creasing. This is important and if the sleeves fits you perfect when new - the creasing will change that.Sorry to bring this topic back from the dead, but I wanted to contribute to the discussion as I feel there may be some misinformation/confusion/discrepancy on this.
From my understanding, the J-22 is wider and shorter than the J-24; this is based on online measurements, and also speaking to someone in the RMC London store. The J-24 in 42 fits me well in the chest and sleeves, although is too long in the body for my taste. Unfortunately they did not stock the J-22, but they suggested that one in a 40 would likely be comparable to the J-24 in 42, and the best fit for me (again, measurements available online would corroborate this).
If anyone has any clarity on the matter, it might be helpful for others who find this topic as a resource!
Cheers.
Nice jacket and nice fit. And very nice floor!)Drumroll...

Thanks Christian. With the J-22, my guess (based on available measurements) is to go "true to size", i.e. if you're a 42" chest, go for the 42 - I'm typically a 40 in McCoy's (001XXJ Denim Jacket, 66 Nylon Down Vest, M-65), have a 40" chest, so would likely go for the 40 (although I am also 6', so the sleeves may come up slightly short).
I'm surprised that the sleeve length of the 42 works well for you - given your height, I would have guessed they might come up long.
Thanks man! It took me 15 hours with an edge floor sander to get things right. The floor is finished with osmo hardwax oil.Nice jacket and nice fit. And very nice floor!)
No worries, i'm glad if I can help you. What's your thoughts about the total lenght of the jacket?
