The Real Mccoy's Buco J-22 or J-24

Dang. So maybe those numbers are right. Man that's a full two sizes down from the tag! Although you could argue my Aero's are a full two up from the tag...in any event it's quite a beautiful jacket.

Wow that is an incredibly undersized jacket! I just checked the measurements myself and almost couldn't believe it. My size 38 RMC A2, which is already a slimmed down version of an A2 has a larger chest than that size 42!

Good fit on you! I gave up looking at tag sizes on jackets, especially RM. I prefer to go by actual measurements of the specific jacket I am looking to get. I just went through this with a Steinbeck. I went off of the sizing on their website and even had a dear friend go to the Kyoto store and measure out a 40 and 42 for me. My measurements corresponded to their 42. When the jacket arrived it was too big. Too big as in the sleeves being at least 4” longer than what their own measurements for a 42 should have been. Shoulders too wide, etc. I switched to a 40 and it is one of my best fitting jackets.

I don't know about durability, but the hookless zipper on the Steinbeck is a giant pain in the a**. Love the jacket, but hate the (admittedly period correct) zipper. When ordering custom jackets, I stay clear of hookless zippers. I love the non-hookless NOS Talon, but the hookless are nasty.

The funny thing is that when it comes to zippers, I cannot stand ball chain pullers - the type that uses two chains connecting to one ball like what this jacket has. I hate it. This Steinbeck is a keeper but I am going to have to swap that puller for a matching period correct Talon bell puller. Something else that bugs me is the different branding on the zippers. Main zipper is ’Talon,’ and ball chain puller is ‘McCoy’s.’ Yes, I’m crazy that way. If anyone can recommend someone that can handle this job in the Los Angeles / SoCal area I’d appreciate a recommendation.

I'm not sure i agree with the statement that RMC J jackets are "hipster jackets"...
They are probably the closest copy of the real thing you can find. The originals aren't as thick as most currently used FQHH.

Fit wise, they are very different. The J-22 is IMO the shortest and slimmest one. The J-24 is longer and wider and i think is labeled a size smaller (a size 40 J-22 would fit closer to a size 38 J-24).
The JH-1 was the only one of the three that actually fit me properly, both the J-22 and 24 were always too short, or too wide if i sized up enough to get necessary length.
The JH-1 was the one that felt the best to me, better length to width ratio than the other two.
I would definitely recommend you try before you buy, as no two RMC model fits the same IMO.

Considering how different the Stainbeck and J are, i would keep both!

I can only speak for my J-22 and I was told to size down. I did not. There's no way a size 40 would have worked. I prefer a little extra room in the upper part (with correct shoulders, sleeve...) and a size 42 fits me great. I'm a 42 inch chest, 5,9. Sleeve lenght is perfect after creasing and I've probably lost around an inch after creasing. This is important and if the sleeves fits you perfect when new - the creasing will change that.

Apologies for the late reply, we have been catching up on emails over the bank holiday weekend.

In regards to which size J-22 you should go for the J-22 is quite boxy in the body and I think that the size one 42 would be too big for you in the chest. Unlike our other Buco models we stock, I would be more inclined to suggest a size 40 but as I’m sure you know with all leather jackets, you really do need to try to get a feel for them.

With the J-22, my guess (based on available measurements) is to go "true to size", i.e. if you're a 42" chest, go for the 42 - I'm typically a 40 in McCoy's (001XXJ Denim Jacket, 66 Nylon Down Vest, M-65), have a 40" chest, so would likely go for the 40 (although I am also 6', so the sleeves may come up slightly short).

I'm surprised that the sleeve length of the 42 works well for you - given your height, I would have guessed they might come up long.

Thanks man! It took me 15 hours with an edge floor sander to get things right. The floor is finished with osmo hardwax oil.

On you? If it were me, I’d like it to be 0.5-1” shorter in the body. Perhaps similar to you, I like to wear my trousers fairly “classic”, higher rise, sitting at the belly button/true waist - ideally, I’d like a jacket the ends at the bottom of the belt line. My Schott 519 and the J-24 I tried on all end about 1-1.5” below the bottom of the belt.

The J-22 is just slightly bigger (more chest room) than the old J-24 with the green lining. The current J-24 is indeed slimmer than the old version with the green lining but also only marginally slimmer. So be careful with these marginal differences.

the real mccoy j24 size 44 i couldnt even freaking zip it up. and the sleeve is crazy long and body is covering my crotch well 1/3 of he way

the size 40 of a j22 rmc fits me perfect sleeve and all


the j22 for me fits a well muscular or a fatter guy than the j24
