There was what was called a vintage Knox straw OR clone on eBay last week. Anyone know anything about these (or should I ask in the Knox thread)?
I have same hat, OR Last Drop 3X.Thanks, Frun, that is what I was thinking. Not much difference between 6/8 and 7/8.
It is a 3X OR with a Last Drop liner. Here is the size tag.

The brim is 2 7/8 all around. It’s a very nice hat. I think you will like it.

Hey guy:Thanks Bowen, I'm still looking at it. What might be a good price range for one in Very Good - Excellent condition?
Hey guy:
That’s such a personal preference thing. I try to shy away from “What’s this hat worth”?
But, i LOVE embroidered Last Drops. Everybody outta have one. So i’ll say this...for a very clean, no flaw specimen more than 100 less than 300. I rarely pay more than 300 for any hat but have on occasion.
Again, your desire for “that hat” trumps all!
Good hunting.
Bowen
Ps: many times $50 separates will i buy it or keep looking. Then i ask myself “Is that $50 worth all the hunting for another? YMMV
Would anyone be able to enlighten me on the age of the open road with the printed last drop liner? Also how is the felt quality from this area, is it malleable or on the stiffer side? Thanks!
Can't wait to see the results!Getting ready to refurbish and size up this soiled and moth-bitten '60s era 3X Open Road that's in desperate need of restoring. A fellow Lounger sent this one to me and I was happy to get it. It'll be my only actual Stetson 3X OR. I'll have more in the Conversion Corral

Thank you buddy. It'll probably come off the block tomorrow and I can start putting it back together. Should make a pretty nice one when I finish. Can't wait to see the results!
How much sanding did it require?Thank you buddy. It'll probably come off the block tomorrow and I can start putting it back together. Should make a pretty nice one when I finish.
None at all. I just went over it a little bit with a yellow hat sponge, and that was mostly just to clean it up. On something like this I try to stay away from sanding as much as possible since the felt has already been finished from the factory. There's times when I might do some light sanding on my conversions but this one didn't need it.How much sanding did it require?
Awesome! I've had great success with some very light sanding and maybe one or two that I would take back if I could! LOLNone at all. Ha! Understood, RC! None of us have ever learned and progressed without making some mistakes along the way.Awesome! I've had great success with some very light sanding and maybe one or two that I would take back if I could! LOL

That is one beautiful hat!!View attachment 153070 View attachment 153068 View attachment 153066 View attachment 153067 View attachment 153068 View attachment 153069 Hello, I am really hoping this question is in the right forum because I really don’t have much I guess education and how to run this area since I don’t do much with hats but I found a open road.
The open road is in Akubra Stetson open road 3x and it is atdecent price
However I can’t find info on it
Year? I know that the bow isn’t knotted so I’m thinking not 1950-1960’s... the liner isn’t pleated... the liner looks printed maybe butnitnusncoversd with plastic like material. However stamped open road it is not cattleman crease... and there is a modern looking akubra booklet.
The stamping looks “off” too
I’m interested in buying but first anyinfo I can’t seem to find much and two... is this even the spot to place this reponse)
This should be a pretty rare hat. The crease could have been changed to a telescope at any time. What size is it? Read this thread to learn how Akubra used to manufacture the Open Road for Stetson under contract, which lead to the Akubra Campdraft.View attachment 153070 View attachment 153068 View attachment 153066 View attachment 153067 View attachment 153068 View attachment 153069 Hello, I am really hoping this question is in the right forum because I really don’t have much I guess education and how to run this area since I don’t do much with hats but I found a open road.

That leather band isn't necessarily original, either. This should be a pretty rare hat. The crease could have been changed to a telescope at any time. What size is it?
