I know your post was all in good fun and spirit and this probably won't get as many laughs because let's face it, nothing is going to beat Miss Piggy. But also because of the Himel vitriol that isn't present at the moment for Thedi. But I guess the Greek god is just one screw up away

And yes this is also in response to the FL thread where it looks like the new hotness has already turned into another Bill Kelso, Alexander/Simmons Bilt, Lost Worlds, Goodwear, Himel or just expensive brands in general or anything to do with "hype" or “buzz words” whether it's coming from makers, stores or people that may be considered "influencers" where for one reason or another there will be massive shit talking and then continuous piling on, but hey, that’s the way of the world.

I guess the purpose of this post is to say that everyone misses, everyone makes mistakes and no one if perfect. I believe everyone is just trying to do their best to put food on the table, so let's just give everyone some slack aye?

(p.s. - I want a GoodWear Modoc. I may just put in an order and let the 5 year OR three month process start. Tiiiimmmmeee issss onnn my side, yes it is)

This is a tangential point but I think there aren’t all that many leather brands that chase the hypebeast/influencer/buzzword markets, even among brands I dislike.

It’s really just Simmons, Himel, FCL that go that route, especially through partnerships with stores like Standard & Strange.

I’ve been to the Schott and Vanson factories and no one there would have any idea what we’re talking about.

@Aloysius I hear you and agree about Vanson and Schott as companies. I don’t think I’ve ever heard hype come from the companies, although I have heard the Schott owner claim that the Marlon Brando jacket was a Schott. Not sure if that applies. Correct me if I’m wrong.
But to me it seems like ever since the fashionistas started calling it Schott NYC there have been more of their collabs with fashion brands than ever. And there’s been plenty of hype from “influencers” over those jackets. Not saying it isn’t justified hype since some of those jackets are super nice.

When did it become Schott NYC?! It was always just Schott or Schott Brothers to me.


Edited - also wanted to add that companies like Schott, Langlitz, Vanson and others have a long history to lean on. Some of these newer brands need to employ good marketing and those are the methods of today.

I’m assuming they added “NYC” to the name/label both to match how, say, Buco had ‘Detroit’ in the label, and to make it clear that they were the actual Schott company before someone swept in with a similar sounding name (happens a lot in the clothing world).

Yes, I think NYC was part of the logo for a long time. I don’t feel like looking up other examples but here’s the tag of my (well now my friends) 618 from 1983 so it’s been on there for at least close to 40 years.

Oh I see what you mean now. Yeah I think that’s actually one of those things that’s a factor of the internet shopping era. People buy things remotely and never hear how the actual shop/company refers to it. A lot of mispronunciations come in this way too I’m sure.

To use an example from a very different area of life, there’s a poem I learned that’s usually sung; there are pauses and parts that you’re supposed to add that I know because I learned from a student of the author, but if I’d just seen a text I wouldn’t know that.

I’m generally pretty broadly appreciative of brands at every tier.

I don’t know that it’s being overly critical to be confused by a jacket that’s a mix of 42 and 36 sizing.

I agree this sizing is weird. I don't know if this was Himels choice or the stores, but I do know that freenote loves to make all their jackets way too long.

The Freenote dudes a nice guys, but every time I try on their jackets, they're ridiculously long on me.

The odd thing to me is buying a stock himel in the first place. In my experience, a huge reason I bought from him was the custom aspect and him building the jackets to my measurements.

Some people just don't like to wait. I guess they must fit someone, otherwise they wouldn't sell them, which they definitely do.

Overall, not a fan of this jacket, that's for sure. Pretty sure Schott has done something similar, yet better and a lot cheaper.

If I had to guess, they probably don't fit everyone who buys them. I don't know who fits into a Fountain Head jacket, for example.

That's the thing. I can't imagine who the person is that this would fit. And you're totally right that people will buy them anyway, so we're going to see people walking out of Freenote with a jacket that doesn't actually fit.

The odd thing is that you'd think having to stick with RTW measurements (even odd ones like this) would call for something of a discount from the full custom price.

Then again, workwear stores can get away with a lot, like how Simmons Bilt (not that I'd ever buy them) sells at double price at Standard & Strange, and their core customer base lines up to place orders.

I don't know why so many makers make jackets so long and slim with tiny shoulders as stock. You don't even have the 'Japanese market' excuse because all the jackets I see like this don't fit Japanese guys either.
