THE MALLORY MILE

Mallory Dallas that's for sale on eBay now. Has a keyhole shaped size tag like Stetson hats, but says Mallory on it. Can't recall seeing this tag before or been so long I've forgotten.
Havnt seen that one before. Though it is a post ‘46 takeover hat. The further we get along the further the integration. This is essentially the Stetson Long Oval tag that seemed to defy assumed timelines on Stetson hats as well.

Ezra A Mallory obituary from The American Hatter, August 1902. Can't recall if I've seen it posted on the Lounge before.

More advertising for Cravenette goods by another company, in The American Hatter, April 1916. The fine print says Cravenette had been known and advertised for 17 years, so it seems the Cravenette process was put on the market about 1899.

My Mallory Fifth Avenue produced for Kraus Mens Wear. As you can see, the liner has very trippy design ... that coupled with the plastic tip lead me to think this is likely from the 1950's or 1960s before the appearance of the "Mallory by Stetson" brand but I'm no expert so please let me know if you have more accurate dating information.

By chance I shot a Mallory Fedora from at least the 1910s (size 57). Just as the quoted post it has a sweatband with circles all over imprinted, but the color is dark grey. The Mallory logo says "Mallory & Sons". Unfortunately the liner and all the labels behind the sweatband are missing. But there are 3 imprints total:

1. "Mallory & Sons" with a rabbit(?) on top (tow versions seem to exist) and Sole Makers New York at the bottom.
2. Arizona Stores & Co - Kingman Ariz.
3. and that's weird: On top of the Mallory logo, they imprinted a "American Manufacture" stamp with laurel surrounding and some more text at the bottom, then four flagstaffs on top and an eagle above them. It's hard to see, because they overlap 100%

The over all shape of the hat doesn't differ from my 20's Fedoras (maybe a little more sloped crown sides viewed from the front). The Velour is relatively bad. I don't know if it's Pseudo-Velour or if it just suffered too much. Also has a blind spot at the rear of the brim.

The sweatband ribbon is nearly loose and the back of teh sweatband lacks it's final seam and must be glued again.

From Ostrach, Germany, as the seller said, from an estate sale many years ago. Could it be, that the "American Manufacture" tells us, that it's a hat for the export market?

And can someone date this American Manufacture logo? It would be interesting to know more precisely, when this thing was produced. The written Mallory lettering, with the high "r" doesn't seem to appear in the very nice collection of logos in this thread.
E A Mallory & Sons markings

Found an early Mallory derby with E.A. Mallory & Sons markings. It was too beat up and expensive for me to buy, but I did get pics of the markings. Mallory switched from EA & Sons to Mallory Hats around 1920, so the hat is earlier than that. Based on the brim curl it had and checking period ads, I'm thinking this one was closer to 1906. Note the unusual texture/pattern on the sweatband.

Cool. Not something we see very often.

The E.A. Mallory and Sons mark means the hat was made between 1886 and 1904. You can try searching on the store name from the other sweatband mark and possibly narrow down the timeframe. I've never seen the overstamp that is on your hat. Thanks for sharing.

EDIT: The company changed from E.A. Mallory and Sons to The Mallory Hat Company in 1919. The book I got the above dates from seems to be incorrect.

See this thread for an advertising timeline -> https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/mallory-madness-chronological-ads.58995/

Didn't find anything about the company other that it supposedly was a mining company :D But could you please explain why 1904? I thought 1919 was the date when the Sons vanished.

Then I would go by the ads. You can double check the dates of the ads in google books. If I posted those ads, I tried to put in the correct date of where I found it.

In the book it states the company name as E.A. Mallory and Son (note the singular) until 1886, when it changed to E.A. Mallory and Sons (plural) and then The Mallory Hat company in 1904. But again, I would go by the dates in the advertisements.

A Mallory advertisement timeline is in this thread -> https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/mallory-madness-chronological-ads.58995/

Mallory Fifteen Pliafelt. Brim is just shy of 3 inches. It has the 1816 founding date so it's after the 1947 date when Stetson bought Mallory, but I suspect it's either late 40's or early 50's. Has a few moth nibbles and could use a good cleaning but it's still a very decent hat.
