And now for something completely different... A plywood shipping box lid from Moore's of Denton in February 1960. All of the interesting customs declarations and labels make this an interesting study. The store destination in New York City received 5 Stiff Felt men's hats in black. This was during a Bowler revival beginning in the early 1960s. Fished this one out of the Bay and just thought it was cool. I'm such a hat geek... Great find, Mike. Way back when customs saw fit to collect 33 cents for both customs and delivery fees!

Joseph Wilson&Sons of Denton, England, "the Wilson Hat" homburg in black. Size 57, but fits me perfectly. Bound brim at a generous 6,5cm and crown 11cm at the center dent. Quite large proportions for a homburg, but it doesn't look it. It still appears a fairly sleek looking hat. Late forties or early fifties, but could even be pre-war.

Super new addition to your British hat collection, Stefan. Great overall shape. Love that Manchester liner.

This is just the second English hat I found in the local market (the other one went to Steve in Denmark ;) ).

Moores in green "short" long hair finish, size 57 (UK 7)

Crown at around 13cm as open, brim 5.5cm with overwelt. Quite small proportions for my preferences but it's a long hair and Green ! (I hope Stefan will forgive me for that :) ).

Unfortunately the label is glued with the liner :(

It was made for one of the oldest clothing stores in Horten, Vestfold

Hard to capture but a nice sheen on this one

I have no info on the brand or the age of the hat I am afraid.

Super find, Panos. Fantastic colour. Love the old ad from 1909, too. Moores were one of the great Manchester hat makers even though it says London on the label. You've got yourself a quality hat there, my friend.

Thanks Steve for compliments and info. It's a nice little hat very well made for sure. In addition and although most of my vintage findings come from ebay, I find the local hunting more appealing :)

No forgivness needed, Panos: that is a great hat! Hard to find other than more formal hats by Moores actually and that one looks to be in great shape.

Thanks Stefan :)

It looses the excellent due to some light moth spots on the underbrim, but after steaming and brushing are only visible under certain lights and angles.

It's been a while since one was posted here. But here's one I found this week.
Woodrow&Sons fedora in brown heather felt called "mix" on the label. Size 57 with the raw edge brim at 5cm and the crown 11,5cm at the center dent. I'm guessing late fifties or early sixties. made especially for A.H. Kuyper of Enschede, Holland.
