How was Stone's 14th? I just bought two bottles, but haven't gotten to them yet.

Hey BTW, have you had Dogfish Head's Squall? It is a lot like Stone's 10th- one of my DIPA favorites!

Having lived in Bavarian Alpine villages for a quite a while I like to drink Dunkelwiezens and Red Korbinians from my local breweries, Zoetler and Hirsch, both of which are short cycle away...though not such a short cycle back (especially after a couple of Maßkrugs!)

I've been getting stuck into a local brew here a lot, James Squire's Original Amber Ale which really is tasty. It's a beautiful English style brown ale which is stunning.

Chris, if you can find this in the States, pick some up, I reckon you'd enjoy this drop.

Alcohol content of British beers

Ran into a listing of winners from a recent beer competition in England, and was amazed at the low alcohol contents for many of them (see below). The British beers I have had over there have been quite flavourful, and so I am wondering why beers with taste in the U.S. also come with much higher alcohol contents.

Castle Rock Harvest Pale earned that title of "Best Beer in Britain" at the
2010 Great British Beer Festival in London. Harvest Pale, 3.8% abv, is

I have to admit. I've never had any beer from Sonoma, and never cared to, up until a few weeks ago. Any of their alcohol actually. But I had a White Russian River beer, and it was amazing.

Fresh Pliney The Elder it was called. Amazing beer.

I can't get anything from Russian River brewing where I am. And I've heard a lot of good about Pliney the Elder...

Haven't had Pliny the Elder yet, but I've had Consecration and Damnation from Russian River. I'd pretty much try anything by them now.

Oh boy... That Fresh Pliney is AMAZING... It 3 will do ya, on a hot day in Sonoma, I'll tell ya.

Is there are beer trading thread??? I'm sure the East Coast has a lot to offer!

I can't remember the other WRR beers I've had out there, but they were goooooooood...

When my buddy has to go back up north to fight a ticket, I need to have him stock up!

Very traditional British ale and beer do sit in what we now think of as the lower alcohol echelons (3 - 4%)

Blame the Continent, that's where stronger brews and attitudes to beer making stemmed from!

Hi I just finished a bottle of he'brew Genesis ale. It's not great, but I'd drink it again. It's a light brown ale, it is balanced between malt and hops, and unlike many brown ales has no nutty taste at all.

From what the website says, I gotta try the Messiah Bold Dark Nut Brown Ale. Gotta love a company that produces more than 1 brown ale.

Thanks, I like nutty ales more than hoppy. On the other hand I like IPA's anyway. I'm mainly German, and I drink British. Go figure. I got a bunch of stuff at Ralph's world of beers, so far so good.

While I can appreciate truly fine malt beverages, it is good to quaff, now and then, the beers of the Manly Men, or to remember our old foamy friends.

My favorite working man's brew from the days of my youth, (1970s), was Pabst Blue Ribbon. When we could get it, PBR dark was the belly-wash of choice, great with pizza. Once in a while their superb Bock could be obtained. Being less than 150 miles from the brewery meant it was fresh and fizzy.

Our "local" PBR brewery was at Perry, Georgia near Macon. It seems to me that the dark PBR was only available on tap. The Bock turned up at irregular intervals in the can (!) with a goat on the label. I wish I had saved a couple of the cans.
