This is what some couturier (late 50s early sixties) wanted women to wear on the street, but women didn't accepted it.
What a horrible garment that is!

I've noticed the worst fashions come from late 50s/early 60s. In the Sears catalogs I am saving more pages from this time period because I think they are ugly/humourous than pretty lol Note I didn't say ALL late 50s/early 60s fashion was ugly -- just when it *was* ugly, IT WAS UGLY! lol

The hideous gladiator shoes are just horrid. I hate them now, and those are even worse. What I'm pretty amazed at though in the shoe ads are how nearly all of the styles come in a wide variety of widthss. These days few of the styles come in anything but a B width.

I have both the 50s and the 60s Fashion as seen in Sears books. It's interesting that the late 50s/early 60s has some of the most beautiful, elegant designs and the ugliest at the same time. Actually, I feel that way about the whole 60s book. Who doesn't love the classic Jackie O, Chanel-esque suits, but on the next page will be hideous mess.

Thank cheap overseas manufacturers for this -- it keeps manufacturing costs down when you only have to build to one standardized last. Because of this there are many millions of people today who have never, ever actually worn a pair of shoes that fits them properly.

I think this might be why I hate shoes. I really do. I would wear socks all the time if I could. I especially hate heels and rarely wear them. There's nothing I hate more than uncomfortable feet and a wobbly walk.

But back to the ugliness:

In the early 60s Sears catalogs there was a lot of matchy-matchy going on. Even whole families in matching outfits. All really ugly, too.

My oh my, obviously my taste in clothes is deemed ugly on this thread…. I love all of the 1930's dresses, 20's-40's shoes and 1940’s sweaters shown on the previous few pages!:D

Ugly can be good! Look at the Tutti Fruitti shoes above! I LOVE them and they are ugly as sin.

Oh wow, I just saw a pair of shoes in a charity shop today that were exactly like the bottom left ones (Dutch wedge) on the tutti frutti ad, down to the colour combination! I vaguely thought of buying them to sell them on, but wasn't sure they were vintage enough.
