I never have any luck with vintage stuff but figured $20 was worth the gamble. My biggest fear will be my allergies. I'm terribly allergic to certain types of wool.I had a very similar one for a couple of years. It was incredibly warm, but the damn thing never quite fit me the way I wanted - sleeves were fine but the body was too loose.
Thanks Michael, I'll throw some more pics up when it arrives. Maybe this belongs in the vintage hunting thread? I'm sure there's folks here who know much more than I do about these coats but I can easily see myself falling down yet another outerwear rabbit hole here...really dig the mackinaw and there seems to be a plethora of optionsThat looks like a super buy. Shadow plaid is great. You might be able to date it somewhat by the label design, or possibly by the WPL number, or you might find a union tag sewn inside one of the pockets.

Here's a cloth barnstormer type coat by a specialist clothing company in the UK which is now sold out or something. They called it a "jeep coat" but it only vaguely resembles the classic US Army vehicle coat/mackinaw. From what I can tell you can't get them now, and I'm sure they were hugely expensive, but here's photos anyway.
