I don’t have the option to view either in person. I’m kinda liking the extra insulation on the double mack but it makes me feel like layering will be harder but when looking at construction they both have 2 layers of wool on the back thanks to the large map pocket. with sleeves I intend to wear sweaters underneath because a 21oz sweater with the Filson Mack vest will give much more core warmth than just the Mack vest since the sleeves of the double mackinaw seem too tight to wear a sweater underneath as well which will cut down on the amount of wool on the core torso. which makes me feel like these differences in features seem to eventually cancel eachother out in the amount of actual wool that will be on your body in the end with how they seem to be meant to be worn. Has anybody found the double mackinaw to be Warm enough to justify the price

Neither the Mack Cruiser nor the Double Mack is particularly warm. If I remember correctly, they are 24 oz. wool. I have one or the other, and am not impressed with it. I don't wear it when it is less than about 40°. Current Filson products are fashion garments and not for cold weather wear.

I have one of the older Filsons, maybe from the 60s. The shell is about 30 oz. No fashion garment this Filson. It is made for cold weather and keeps me warm.

If you are looking for warmth in an outer garment, the current production Filsons at 24 oz. aren't for you.

I’ve got a vintage double mackinaw from the 70/80s it’s around a 44/42 in size and I absolutely love it, I live in western Montana and I couldn’t ask for a better coat for the weather up here in winter,

I wear this daily in the winter and it stands up to the weather perfectly.

Can’t complain about it, buttons are way better, material is heavier, I believe between 26-28 oz wool? Maybe 24, but two layers is perfect.

Personally I’d get the double, they look better and are older therefore in my experience better for the money.

I’ve got a pre-acquisition double Mack w/ a shearling collar. I’ve been out down to roughly 0*f in it comfortably. I’ve got their single thickness jackets as well and they’re not for cooler weather. I’m at 61* latitude and have little use for jackets that look the part but aren’t.

Double for sure.
