Smithy- end the struggle, mate.

I actually bit the bullet,
went against my instincts and
bought a bottle of Ballantynes blended
Scotch today. Drinking a large mug of it now...
...I can taste that there are different regions in there
... and... I can also taste the caramel...!

But it's OK.
Really.

My whisky (no, no, spellcheck) glasses are
really nice. I'm wearing them now-

So you've bit the bullet eh BT?

I like a bit more oomph in my blends. I find Ballantynes to be one of those lighter tasting blends marketed at the US market like Cutty Sark but if it does the business and makes the end of the day rosier I'll drink to that!

And you're on the Italian reds as well I see, and I'm on the Italian whites. We'll have to meet somewhere in the middle. Portuguese anyone :D

I could murder a Masi Amarone right now as well, la dolce vita...

Whoops that wasn't you on the Italian red that was the other chap. Drinking in the sun eh? That'll do it to you...

Actually, I disagree about the Ballantynes- it has a certain un-smoothness,
that you would not normally associate with most blends and I wouldn't call it a "light" blend. I also like that it has a slightly sour aftertaste- many Malts have quite a sweet finish- even the Islays.

I don't normally go for the blends at all but I just thought to, for a change and to assess it further.

But yes, I would normally go for Laphroiag or Ardbeg(not necessarily in that order), or another fave, Springbank. Or my old standby, of course,The Glenlivet.

I prefer the Islays but Campbelltown and even a Highland now and again, for a "dessert Whisky".

Don't worry, the Bally will soon be gone... weekend.

I am presently enjoying my first martini. I had the vermouth, just some cheap Lujon, and picked up a bottle of Tanqueray gin, as per the recommendation of a co-worker.

Very nice. ^_^

I just wish I could find better quality vermouth. Unfortunately, I am at the moment limited by the small selection begrudgingly offered to us by the Utah State Liquor Stores.

Whipped up a batch of my "quick" sangria for the neighbors.
Not traditional, but gets rave reviews everytime I bring it.

Bottle of red wine ..... (I like Chianti or a young Cab Sauv)
1 cup OJ .................(Sunny Delight in my recipe)
1/2 cup Brandy.......... (or a little more, if you prefer)

Make a 50/50 blend with 7-up and add ice to the glass.

Consume mass quantities.

Mmmmh, such a nice evening so far. Tonight I am staying home and I have got myself 6 pieces of chocolate from the danish chocolatier Summerbird and a mini bottle of Asti - nothing fancy, just lounging about and waiting for a good movie to start.

Tonight, the selection is Dalmore 12 year Scotch. I lack a real "tasting glass," so into a wine glass it goes. It's not super premium Scotch, but it sure is nice.

I was watching Goldfinger last night, and while they were sitting and chatting on Auric Goldfinger's veranda in Kentucky sipping Mint Juleps, I simply HAD to have one....
Fresh mint from the garden, sugar syrup, Maker's Mark, crushed ice...mmmmm

Pre-dinner cocktail : kir royale
with dinner (homemade sushi) : sake, which I found out was not my thing!
after dinner : Möet & Chandon rosé enjoyed on a rooftop terasse with Sinatra playing in the background. It doesn't get much better than that.

That sounds like a fabulous time !!
Was your sake HOT or Cold ??? I enjoy cold from time to time but avoid the hot sake altogether.

It was a fabulous evening! It was cold sake and apparently directly from Japan, but still, not my cup of tea.

You guys and gals have obviously been given a bum steer by someone giving you the cheap stuff...good warm Japanese made sake is spectacular :)

Another drink which comes up nice warm is a vodka from Poland which I'm pretty sure is called "watra" (pronounced "vatra" with long aaa's). You pour a shot of this specific vodka into a glass and then top it up with boiled water...sort of like a vodka tea...brilliant on cold winter nights...
