"Is school," sighs Sally, "read f' HER?"

One of them needs to find a job near the school as the calls will be coming soon.

Thankfully, Shirley can run the place without him.

Nasty's a goldbug. Since neither Burms or Dragon Gal seem on horizon here,
Terry should make serious play for Ms Smythe-Heatherstone. She could easily subsidize
a Macau stud poker run and a week's stay at the Peninsula. Then, rotation CONUS for discharge, and the University of Chicago. :)

Another barn burner yesterday with the Travers. A lightly raced colt whom I discounted
for inexperience, demonstrated remarkable maturity by toppling Golden Tempo and Renegade.
I admittedly played a conservative hand-strictly percentage past performance-ignoring some nagging instinctive sentiment to open up the tablestakes deal and raise a grand on the kid shooter; however, the Indiana Derby isn't Kentucky kosher equivalent. :(

She's pretty. She has a unique name. I watch a lot (too many) "old" movies. I wondered why I had no recollection of her at all? So off to IMDb I went and she starred in, acted in, and was in a total of two pictures combined: "Susie Steps Out" (1946) and "Two Guys from Texas" (1948). That's it; that's her entire Hollywood career. I feel a bit better about not recognizing her name now. I am a very small person whose goals continue to shrink.

The Brooklyn gambling ring **** is all for naught much ado about nothing.
GIs gamble in latrine **** games and barracks shirtfront poker payday sessions; often held
inside the first sergeant's room where the chairs run a sawbuck rental and he gets a piece
of the pot. Barracks tradition that dates back to the Roman Legion.

There's only one way to deal with rich ***** Nastalthia, Terrence.

An Aristotelean balance is a much better approach to grudges or they end up owning you and the person you want to get even with is still doing damage to you, years later, without even trying.

Readers hung on for weeks, wondering what would happen with Jael and Sisera.

That's a pretty cool thing they did. Obviously, it depends on how much they print each day, but I'd have taken the under on 22 years and 8 months.

Also, the misconduct that led to the woman being left in Panama should be spelled out. :)

Pvt Frank Wallrath should be granted commutation to one year's stockade with time
served credit and General Discharge GI Bill eligible. There's absolutely no reason to send
that boy to the gallows.

Lovely Mary Ellen Gleason is too beautiful to be allowed to leave the United States.

Charles walked into Cupid's right cross. Knew that was coming Chuckie.
Now Terry can assess the situation more rationally. The Peninsula dining room serves shrimp
with coconut sauce, which Nastalthia would relish. On the other hand, she might go street vendor
Hong Kong aphrodisiac where a monkey's skull is split open, its brain extracted, and fried like
a cheeseburger. I kid you not and the locals swear by it.

(In 1946, today is Labor Day, and the Eagle, as is its holiday custom, doesn't publish. But for our Brooklyn friends, life goes on...

****

(Out in Ozone Park, a steady stream of cars heads for Aqueduct Racetrack for the opening of the fall racing meet, and a healthy number of those cars turn off at Big Joe's Drive-In for a hearty lunch. In the lot, Rosa Capiello weaves and turns and spins as she skates the trays to the parked customers, while behind the counter, Joe mans the grill while Sammy assembles and wraps the sandwiches, and Shirley staffs the service window. For a long-deserved while, all finally seems right with the world...)

****

(Back at 1762 63rd Street, Sally sits on the floor surrounded by items of rejected school apparel. "Ya gotta weah SUMP'N t' school," she flares. "It's t' LAWR!" "Fascis'," thrusts Leonora, and she means it to sting...)

****

(Down in the basement, Krause and Willie, smeared with grime and soot, prepare the boiler for the changing seasons, pausing as Alice delivers a carryout bag from Schreibstein's, containing three Big Joe's Specials. All here, too, is right with the world...)

****

(At Lieb's Luncheonette, Ma glares across the counter at Bink Scanlan, who glares back. "Oi will KNOW," vows Ma, "what YOU know." "I dunno nut'n," insists Bink, licking her spoon. "'Cept t'at strawrberry ice cream DOES make a good b'nana split.")

(As the "Trail Blazer" churns eastward, Sergeant Solomon J. Pincus, celebrating a successful arrangement with Mike O'Donnell of Kansas City, grins down at the succulent steak just placed before him by a smiling dining car waiter, and sighs with contentment as he slices off the first perfect bite. All here, as well, is right with the world...)

****

(And slumped in a sagging leatherette seat aboard a grimy bus clattering its way eastward across Ohio, Uncle Frank, unshaven and unwashed, and minus his hat, suit coat, and grip, unwraps a ham sandwich purchased with his last dime, and sighs with resignation as he picks off the spots of mold and flicks them to the sticky floor....)

Little Jimmy Carney needs a serious woodshed encounter with a leather belt.
I was raised by two women, mother and grandmother. And if told to do something,
I and my siblings made sure obedience without a second order need issue.

In the Rita Pinta homicide, thirteen year old Nicholas Intrieri is guilty of deliberate intent
murder, however will probably escape commensurate punishment with histrionics.
This wasn't a cap *** but a .22 caliber ***** that he fed ammunition into before committing the
conscious act of aiming it at the girl and squeezing the trigger. Children are capable of deplorable heinous acts of inchoate reason but sufficient under law to fulfill element criminal intent. As with female ***ual predation, human nature reveals wide brush artistry. :(

Charles needed that slap. Caniff might consider a wrap party of some sort to tie this trip up.
