Stir the pot, Brickie!

You can understand her being a bit peeved. Plus, I still say she's the keeper.

Ah yes, the Lowthers. Careful what you wish for...

All these people who live for the public drama tend to make mediocre spouses at best.

Separately, I think the wife/mother above got away with murder and probably should have.

*********************************************************

Mickey Rooney, call your agent.

Since I've never stumbled across a postwar 1940s "Terry and the Pirates" movie, I checked on IMDb and Fairbanks Jr. released it as a TV show in 1952 with – and this is for @Harp – Sandra Spence playing Burma:

I concur with Judge Mullen's release of Betty O'Leary on passion grounds and two children
to raise against manslaughter plead stemming her husband's infidelity.

Sandra Spence looks the part for Burms. I had initially mistook her for Doris Day...whom easily
could have filled the casting bill. Irish McCalla also comes to mind. ;)

("She stawrts school t'marra," sighs Sally, "an' I dunno if I c'n get t'ru it wit'out goin' nuts." "Oh?" ohs Dr. Levine, from beneath a raised eyebrow. "T'at'sa figyeh a' speech," clarifies Sally. "Ah," nods the psychiatrist. "But you know what I mean," continues Sally. "She's been outa control. She won't do what I tell 'eh, she won't weah t' cloe's I tell'eh t' weah, an' when I tell'eh t' do it or else, y'know what she cawl't me? A fascis'! ME! A FASCIS'! Whez she even pickin'at up?" "Hm," acknowledges the doctor. "An' she don' mind Joe neit'eh. She says she will, 'nen as soon as 'e leaves t'go out t' t89 stand, she's right back wheh she was. It's been like t'is eveh since Joe got back fr'm t' wawr." "Have you considered," offers Dr. Levine, "what the past couple of years must've been like for her?" "Whatcha mean?" frowns Sally. "She's a kid. Kids don' pay no 'tention..." "I wouldn't say that," argues Dr. Levine. "She was how old when Joe got drafted?" "'Bout two'na half, I guess," shrugs Sally. "And she was very close to her father, correct?" continues the doctor. "Well, yeh," nods Sally, "but..." "And then one day he was gone, and she didn't know why. Isn't that so?" "But she ain' like ot'eh kids," reminds Sally. "She was awready stawrt'n t' read by t' time Joe left. Who knows what she was t'inkin'." "All the more reason," declares the doctor, "to consider the question. Her father went away, he was gone for almost a year, and then one day he came back, but he wasn't the same. Isn't that so?" "Yeh," acknowledges Sally. "And now he's busy all the time with this new business," continues the doctor, "and on top of that, now *you're* telling her that she has to start this whole new routine." "It ain't t'at much diff'rent," rebuts Sally. "She's been goin' t' t' clinic awrmos' two yeehs now. Ev'ry day, ridin' oveh t' City wit' Misteh Ginsboig, an' back again at night. Y'd t'ink she'd be excited not t'be doin'at no moeh. I mean, t' school's jus' two blocks up fr'm home. No moeh'ra t'em lawng subway rides..." "Ah," ahs Dr. Levine. "You've mentioned this Mr. Ginsburg before." "Yeh," acknowledges Sally. "Y'know whats'a funny t'ing, he's t' on'y poisson I neveh hoid'eh tawk back to." "Don't you find that interesting?" questions Dr. Levine. "Well," ponders Sally, "he's kinda like a gran'faw'teh to 'eh, I guess. I mean, not like Uncle Frank, but somebody t'at...." "Somebody that, perhaps, listens to what she has to say?" suggests Dr. Levine. "After all, that's a long subway ride. Plenty of time for conversation..." "Huh...." considers Sally....)

Can't see anything going wrong with any part of this solid plan. I love these two, but good God.

********************************************************

I imagine this is why Rep. Arends is a bachelor.

Yes, I think "most eligible" is doing a lot of heavy lifting while missing the obvious.

********************************************************

No one will ever miss her.

Least of all her father: "Lost in the flood you say. Just asking, anybody find the body? Hmm, well, the state will legally declare her dead, we'll all mourn, and then do our best to soldier on." "Sir, why are you pumping your fist?" "Oh, hi, I thought I was alone."

Go for it, kids.

I forget, does she know about his legs? If she does, then yes, if not, then he should tell her now and let her decide without pressure.

Fighting Big Tomato...

I'm guessing there is a second side to this story, but every paper – on both sides – has its, umm, bias perspective.

("Hold still," cajoles Sally, gazing into the viewfinder of her No. 2 Brownie. "I dowanna," fidgets Leonora, standing on the stoop of 1762 63rd Street. "T' sun hoits my eyes!" "Hey Sal!" Alice calls. "Get one'a t' two'vm t'get'eh!" "I dowanna," protests Leonora, glaring at her cousin. "T'at slickum on 'is head smells funny!" "Awright," calls out Joe. "Say 'Big Joe's Special wit' cheese!'" As he snaps the photo, the door opens again, and Mr. Ginsburg emerges, puffing a blue cloud of Half and Half. "Good morning," he greets. "Perhaps, these scholars, these young scholars might join in a walk? Up 18th Avenue I am going, on business, important business of course, and the school is on mine path." She's awesome. I love her and I love that her dad gets her.

Separately, how come Joe isn't having meat supply issues again?

******************************************************

Seven times. He's stolen home seven times, and there's still three weeks to go. If he doesn't slide all the way into the backstop...

And that is an incredible picture. It's Daily News worthy. (The Eagle editor kicks his wastepaper basket across the office floor when he hears that quip.) Also, what a great play. Every time it is successful, I still think, "That play can never work."

******************************************************

"The mediocre story of Billy the Kid." See, there's a plot to it.

"Tussle with Russell" is good ad copy. Blumenstock would be jealous if he wasn't rightfully in jail for possible manslaughter.

******************************************************

How do you say "schadenfreude" in Cantonese?

She going to need to learn a lot of words, or probably none cause she's done giving orders. I can't stand her and her arrogance is overwhelming, but even she doesn't deserve what is coming her way – which Caniff can't directly show us, but we'll know. Kudos to him; he finally made this boring storyline interesting.

The Bardston Victory running aground off Point Bonita in the Golden Gate recalled my dad
telling me about his passage back from Japan and memorable sail beneath its bridge.

Don't understand what the critics are in such a huff about regarding Jane Russell, a real
needle in the haystack. And out of it too.

Ms Maud Spear Douglas Springman enters civil law marriage with her former hubby,
plans British residence after Reno divorce, and believes her Yankee portfolic hold is quite
beyond John Bull's grasp. She'll learn.

They're both fifteen here. The wonderful thing about his work is the subtle way he handles the aging of the characters -- if you look back five years or so, the Skeez of 1941 is more mature than we see him here, but much less so than the Skeez we know in 1946. And yet when you're watching it unfold as we do here, day by day, you never notice it happening even while it is...
