Is sizing for Bronson and Red Tornado roughly still the same (up one) as for Buzz Rickson? That is, if my chest is close to 38, buy a Size 40 or L?

I would say the Bronson definitely runs a bit small. I had one (briefly) and it was too tight for me in my normal size, especially in the arms. I touched on this a while back, but thought I'd chime in again. Also, a reminder about that distinct chemical smell. It must have something to do with their "waxing" process as I recently purchased a Nautilus waxed canvas jacket from Iron and Resin with pretty much the same odor if I remember it correctly. Hoping it dissipates over time as I did keep the jacket because it fits great.

Temp finally dipped (a very little) today and it had me thinking about deck jackets . Last winter was the 1st in years where i didn’t wear my deck jacket much. It was sort of replaced in rotation by a filson mac. Not sure what i’ll do this winter.

Cross-posted from WJAYWT, here's a terrible selfie picture of my recently-acquired Carhartt Sheffield jacket, Carhartt's WIP take on the N-1. They first introduced it in 2018, but I'm not sure when this specific example dates from.

It's much more a fashion jacket than a real repro, but nonetheless seems decently put together and robust.

Chunky metal zip. 100% cotton canvas twill shell, quilted poly-lined sleeves with ribbed storm cuffs. And the inside is fully lined with that same sort of borg fleece you get on a modern sherpa trucker jacket.

I've sized up one here, from my usual Medium. I had a Medium before and felt it was too snug. This Large fits me exactly how I want it to - room for a sweater, but fine over just a t shirt too.

I see North Sea Clothing have just launched their own version.

It looks like this one is unlined, similar to the RRL one which was featured in a couple of TV shows. Comes in white, navy and this colour. I have my Iron Heart winter weight one which I love but something for early Autumn would be useful and I've always been impressed by the other products I've bought from them.

After seeing this release, I’ve been doing a deep dive to lightweight N1s. There are a surprising number of them out there - from the cheap Chinese versions to North Sea, Freewhelers, Mr Freedom, Iron Heart and RRL.

I love that the IH model has a Ventile lining, though the product pics for the RRL are probably my favorite (not that I would spend that kind of money for an ok quality jacket made in India).

If I hadn’t just bought an M65 jacket this year, I’d probably take the plunge in one of the lower tier versions of this (like Indigosea)

Thinking pretty seriously about getting that IH ‘lightweight N1’ when it drops next week, though the size chart does give me pause. I’m not looking for a slim fit, but I’ll only be wearing this over a tshirt. I think I’m a Large (for a very relaxed fit) but it looks like Medium would also work.

This model is about my height and weight in a Large:

Me, in an M65 that’s 19.5” at the shoulders, 20.5” at the chest and 24.5” sleeves:

To me on that chart it reads like the shoulder measurement is smaller than I would expect from the chest measurement, or else the chest is wider than I would expect from the shoulder measurement.
