I'll do my bestReally like that style, Marcel. I think if you keep gently brushing it, you'll get that velour back to pristine condition.

Good luck. Remember, though, the straw is less forgiving than felted fur.Got this one incoming. One size too small, but I just wanted a Borsalino straw, and I figure with a cloth sweatband it shouldn’t be hard to stretch - we shall see.

Fantastic finding! Here's something a bit different. Managed to get my hands on some material from a fashion designer who did some work for Borsalino. Quite a bit of advertising and promotional material from the period 2011/2012 when Borsalino was trying to diversify into clothing, leather goods, jewellery and whatnot.
We are a good thirty years away from when the colours of the felts were still on the labels. Doesn't mean they didn't name them. The most interesting pieces for us are the felt samples, provided for reference and inspiration. But let's see them first.

Quite a few new ones: spago, calcedonia, durra, ducale, ebano, paludo, oceano, rusco and ottanio are all new to us. Could well be they were just meant for women's hats, but that's not very likely. There are three new blues there, which confirms to a degree the suspiscion there must have been more than the limited number we've seen so far.
The translations of some of them are a bit odd; "raven" for sebino? And Averla is hardly "slate black". The Folco is quite a bit different from the reddish brown we know.
Below more samples, this time with grosgrain ribbon samples added. Apparently meant as shades of black. Again a new blue colour here: abisso. Abisso, bakarole and scarabeo are all new (to us at least).
Question is how long were they around for and have we just not found them yet.

Thanks, Steve. Now to find the hats with these colours! And to find more catalogs of course. They rarely show up indeed, but it's so great when they do.
Super find, Stefan. Congrats!
John Lofgren Monkey Boots Shinki Horsebuttt - $1,136 The classic monkey boot silhouette in an incredibly rich Shinki russet horse leather.
Grant Stone Diesel Boot Dark Olive Chromexcel - $395 Goodyear welted, Horween Chromexcel, classic good looks.
Schott 568 Vandals Jacket - $1,250 The classic Perfecto motorcycle jacket, in a very special limited-edition Schott double rider style.
Nice find, Jeff. Always a treat to see a new colour we can add to the collection. The metals are just extra and not a colour group of their own. All the colours there are in the "real" colour groups as well (usually greys). I might have missed one here and there though.New hat, purchased from Ukraine, originally sold in Italy. With a 5cm double-stitched over welt brim and 9cm at the crown crease, it is a 66-75 era in a color I don't believe had been listed before, a Magnesio with an asfalto hatband. I would have thought perhaps a misto felt, but it is certainly a longer hair velour, in Qualitá Extra Superiore.

@steur not sure if it's categorized as a metal or gray color according to your existing system? Of course, the asfalto is listed as an existing color.
I'm always pleased to be able to add to the knowledge you have collected so well.Nice find, Jeff. Always a treat to see a new colour we can add to the collection. Cool item, Bob. Pity you didn't win it. I bid on one of these once, but lost as well. Went for a fair bit higher than this one and was in worse condition.Borsalino Medals Display. I had a low “just in case” bid. Not sure what I would do with such a thing.

I think it is safe to say no later than 90's. I think Borsalino returned to indicating the production dates on the white celled tags in the late 90's.I am grateful to more learned men than me for letting me know the hat I just got here in the UK is a Borsalino Vivax !! Size is 61 so a little tight on me, not sure of the age, but maybe 80s 90s?

Nice. I think you are right 80's 90's. More specific '84 - '93 with the 6 digits on the label.I am grateful to more learned men than me for letting me know the hat I just got here in the UK is a Borsalino Vivax !! Size is 61 so a little tight on me, not sure of the age, but maybe 80s 90s?
