The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Borsalino used this type of label from the early eighties onwards to this day. Their liners haven't changed much in this period as well. Pretty certain this is rabbit felt because the hat would say so if it was beaver or nutria. Their financial troubles, or rather the financial troubles of their owner, didn't affect the quality of their hats. So there wouldn't be a difference other than price between a hat that was produced before and one that was produced after that financial jiggery pokery.
So I contacted LodenFrey in Munich.
They closed down their Men's Hat department in 2017 ( same year as Borsalino bankrupcy).
So, confirmed (at least) that the hat is pre- bankrupcy.
To Me......Next to my 1 Hornskov....This hat is my 2. favorite, it Rocks !

Plush or velour Borsalinos bought this year, not counting the 2 minks already shown. Don't know if any have been shown on the Lounge before, but wouldn't surprise me. Each will be shown separately, from left to right, then center front last.

Pesca, Extra Superiore, Color is either Cuoio or Sfinge. This hat has 2 1/4 brim, all others shown are 2 1/2.

Velva Extra Superiore Muflone
Beautiful hat. Can't make out the model name on the right though. Can you tell what it says?

Pesca Extra Superiore, no color given.
Very nice. Strange that this label doesn't have a colour name.

Peluche, Extra Superiore, Amarena. Has $20 OPS tag from 1951-53.
Stellar hat. Great shape and amarena is a wonderful colour. If I'm reading it right the model name is Loiasti, which isn't a model we have seen before.

Pesca, Extra Superiore, Color is either Cuoio or Sfinge. This hat has 2 1/4 brim, all others shown are 2 1/2.
Another beauty. Sfinge is the felt colour, Cuoia is the colour of the ribbon. The c. stands for cinta (ribbon)
Marque Grand Luxe, 5X, Nembo.
You're really killing it here. Fabulous hat. Nembo is a rare colour; only have seen one other hat in that colour.
Peluche, Superiore. Color not given, but Black to me.
If no colour is on the label it's black. Fantastic Gorasgu model hat.
What a jawdropping series of Borsalinos. I'm in awe.

Thanks so much. That's high praise coming from you. Yes, Loiasti. The Velva model looks like Drudosgu or scu.

My recent thrift store find, a Borsalino Bristol Traveler. Rabbit felt and maybe only sold in Europe? It's very soft and has a 6cm brim so it should keep the rain and sun off my face. I don't think it is very old and it will be a nice addition to my casual walking hats. At 7 1/2 it's a bit tight, but that's easily solved by wearing it.

Stamped 1956 or 8 on the tag, idk.
Great suede finish on the Thirty. A few moth nibbles to keep it humble. Still, a fedora to make this ole country boy proud!
Has stitched over welt that doesn’t penetrate the under side. A fine specimen that didn’t even need shaping. Rare for me. Just brush, swipe the sweat with a wet cloth wear and enjoy!

Man, Mike’s got some beauties up there, don’t he?!

What a beauty, Randall. Looks like a nice wide ribbon, too.

Great catch, my friend.

He sure does, but this Thirty is no slouch either. Because you wanted my opinion on the label, here it is. It's an American market label, that you don't see on European market Borsalino hats. But even for American market Borsalinos they are a rare exception, because most American market Borsalinos have the usual labels. We don't know if they were put in the hats by the importer or by Borsalino. I have a hat sold by Rogers Peet, which has the same label (in a different size of course):

That one doesn't have the usual Borsalino label either. What is unusual about your label is that it has the date on it. Likely that was done by the retailer.

And thanks, Stefan for the info.
Do ya think that “G” may stand for Gorusgu?
