Hello:

I'm totally confused. All of my Borsalino's say MADE IN ITALY. by ORIGINAL HOUSE FOUNDED 1857. There were some made in the USA which would say made in USA? Also ..can anyone please explain the hats with the G. BORSALINO FU LAZZARO label? Were they made in Italy? I found one in a second=hand store here in Italy and would like to buy it but I question if the FU LAZZARO is a lower quality? I actually live in Italy and spoke personally with Mrs. Usuelli..the widow of the man of the Borsalino family who sold out to this new crowd.

Thank you!!

New member with a new Borsalino

Just joined this forum today, found this forum by searching for more information on Borsalino.

Today while visiting Seattle I wandered into hat lover heaven, Byrnie Utz hats. About 1500 sq. feet of nothing but hats. Hats stacked to the ceiling, hats on tables, hats on the floor. I walked in wearing a Stetson Temple, while I gawked they steamed and blocked my hat gratis and I left wearing a brand new Borsalino Verdi in black.

I've been wanting a Borsalino for a while and this is the one I'd had my eye on.

One question for you Borsalino experts. What purpose if any does the elastic string around the hat band play?

wind cord or wind trolley.
unravel it off the crown, put the button through the lapel hole of your jacket so the hat doesn't fly out with the wind.

I would have gone the life of the hat without figuring that out!

First Borsalino

I figured I'd join the club. I got this hat through member Orgetorix. He was kind enough to spot it in a local second-hand store and act as the middle man in getting it to me; he's a great gentleman for doing that.

I love the hat. It is the widest brim I have, but I like the way it looks, and it is a perfect fit.

MY FIRST BORSO!!!! And totally by accident too.

So I'm very excited today. There is a small antique shop in my neighborhood where I usually frequent to buy little things for my apartment. I was looking for a vintage dining room table and chair set today. They do have some big pieces of furniture sometimes. I have already bought two hats this month, and I though I was done buying for a while, when suddenly, this gorgeous hat caught my eye. When I first saw the hat on a stand in the store, I thought it might just be a crumby manufacter, but when I flipped the hat over, a gold stamp poked right out and said, "Borsalino." I tried it on, and it actually fit. The hat is a 7 1/8 and I am usually a 7, but for some reason this hat fit perfect. When I asked the owner how much she wanted for it, she told me $28 plus tax. I bought the hat instantly. I never looked for a Borso on ebay because they are often pretty expensive, but for that price I couldnt pass it up.

The hat is honestly perfect. The felt is by far the softest felt I have ever felt and could pass for velvet or velour. The quality of the hat is just awesome. Because of the camera flash, the hat looks light brown, but is actually a very very very deep brown, almost black. It came from marshall fields mens store when it was new, which is very exciting being a chicagan. I would guess that it came from the historic Marshall Fields on state street due to the fact that the hat was probably very expensive when it was new. Can any of you date the hat? Here are some pictures, enjoy.

Soft-brimmed homburg

Any idea what age this old Borsalino is? I think the style, extra-wide unreeded sweat, logo (though they did use that one for quite a while) and the old Rogers Peet logo puts it pre-WWII. But I'm open to suggestions.

That's just like the Borsalino Alessandria hat I bought from Peters Brothers. It's the same kind of hat that keow11 is seeking for his Johnny Depp fedora. Peters Brothers also sells that hat in "mink" color which looks dark brown, a la Johnny Depp. I may try to fit that into the buying plan for 2010.

That's a nice looking hat and a good color. I don't go for homburgs myself, but it seems that you can carry it off.

I gotta admit Dano, that I'm not a homburg fan either. This style with its soft, sloping brim puts it in a different category that seems to work quite well.
