<sigh> OK thanks... My best guess is that aside from the one fabric hat, the rest will not survive the rolling. I'm not sure what you mean by "reeds," but I can say that (unless I can pack a good small hatbox in a large sturdy suitcase), most of these are full leather sweatbands and will likely not take the roll even for a few hours without a full steaming on the other end.

Gentlemen,

I was wondering if any of you happened to have heard of or seen another Borsalino "Mont". Pics below. Just curious about it. The ribbon is mine as it came witihout one, but I know it was this size because the unfaded fur was obvious.

Altiori - As always, pictures help. My guess is a 1995 vintage. Pics of the liner and production tag is always helpful.

Based on the separate paper label for the size I would say probably later 1930s (see other examples). I am assuming this one was made for the European market (can't tell from the photos). What is the word after Mont on the main paper label? If you get a chance it would be nice to see photos of the other sweatband logos. It's always great to see older Borsalinos.

Mayser, the hat was actually for the American market (Original House). It is tough to read, but I think it says "Mont Ceminto". I couldn't find any place by that name. I'll get pics up soon. Thank you for your response.

I assume US size 7? My examples with the separate (Point) size stamps are German market Borsalinos (the others I recall are European) so might not apply. I did a quick search on Mont Ceminto but didn't find anything.

Bruno very interesting Borsalino. It is old, but I'm not able to date it
"Mont Ceminto" is a fantasy word as for all the Borsalino "type" signed on the paper label.
The name of color, by the way, has a logic.

It is in the "small proportions" homburg category

Size 6 ( EU 59 cm. 7 3/8 Us) has pencil brim 5 cm (2 inches) and crown at 12,5 cm (5 inches)

Kleinhans was a famous department store in Buffalo NY . Its long gone. They sold a lot of Borsalino hats . I was able to email the grandaughter of the hat buyer years agothat ran the hat dept. She sent me a lot of interesting things that her family had .

I have a Borso with separate size/mfg. stamps made for the American market. It is a heather felt hat called "Renna". I will try to find the photos and post them.
I have replaced the ribbon.

My one example of a Borsalino with the manufacturing tag with separate size label was a hat purchased in Bologna - likely from a Buffalo traveler as it was donated to my wife's costume shop. Above the color names is a three letter code to the left and five digit number to the right as in MB's hat. I would concur on the guess that these are pre-war.

Kleinhans billed itself as the largest men's clothier in the country. It had several locations in and around Buffalo that remained in business into the early 1990s. I have quite a few hats originally from the Kleinhans which traveled a long way during their lives... much like Buffalonians. The wonderful Saarinen designed music hall that bears the family name is still home for the Buffalo Philharmonic. I live close by.

Nice. Thank you. I also have a "Renna", but alas, it does not have the separate size tag. Mine is younger than yours, I think, as it has a smaller ribbon. Yours looks very 30's, mine 50's.

Here is an Echter Borsalino (probably later 30s) with the separate size (Point) stamp. The lady that sold it to me said her father had the hat prior to WWII and he passed away in 1948.

Borsalino made in black fur felt

Size 6 (59 EU 7 3/8 US) very "large" knowing the tight Borsalino sizes

Very soft and confortable felt

It was sold in Germany, Munich in A. Breiten shop

It has more or less twenty years and the proportions are: 7.5 cm. (3 inches) brim and crown (low point) is around 11 cm. (4.5 inches)

It was slightly worn by an old gentleman who had in his wardrobe only Borsalino wide brim in black

NOS sold in a South Italy it was made in recent years

Proportions are crown, low point, at 11 cm. (4 21/64) and brim at 5.5 cm. (2 11/64 inches)

A medium felt, pliable and with a special metal color. Black ribbon 4 cm. (1 37/64)

Fantastic medium hair hat!
