The beauty of Art's Midnight Blue

When visiting Art I arranged to have him make me a fedora that closely resembled a Stetson Whippet in what I would call a Midnight Blue color of 100% beaver felt. Here's the result, just in today. This is probably one of the most beautiful colors I've ever seen in a felt. The pics do NOT do it justice. I wanted it soft so I could shape it myself and it is extremely pliable and soft to the touch. I don't think Art could have got it any closer to what I wanted.

Just outa the box.

After a few seconds of shaping.

Beautiful in shape and color...fantastic! Congratulations!:eusa_clap By the way, what are the specs on crown height and brim width?

The crown is shaped on a #52 block at 5 3/4 inches and the brim is 2 3/4ths.

This is the last hat I'm putting in my collection. You guys don't have to worry about bidding against me on ebay anymore. My plate is full--to the MAX. With the addition of this dark blue to my collection there is no other hat I could ever need in my lifetime.

I've a tendency to be compulsive obsessive and this has to stop somewhere and I can think of no better place to stop than with one of Art's customs.

ahh well--

Let me repeat myself Daniel:

"I've a tendency to be compulsive obsessive and this has to stop somewhere and I can think of no better place to stop than with one of Art's customs".

But thanks for the offer. And by the way, I don't think that was the last Midnight Blue body Art had. So just give him a call.

That's ok Fedoralover, I don't think I will be giving this one up anytime soon.;) Since you seem to be the luckies dog on the porch when it comes to these great deals on vintage lids, I just feel fortunate enough to share that porch with you now. Do you think we can persuade you to take a photo of you wearing that blue beauty over on your thread?:)

Cheers!

Looks like a beaut, fedoralover. Maybe one of our more photo- and computer-literate brethren can explain why dark blue doesn't show true. I got what I think is a 1930s-vintage dark blue Stetson that pictures just don't do justice.

Felt in general does NOT photograph well for some reason. It's very very hard to light it so that the correct color emerges. Not sure why this is. (Although it probably has something to do with why felt backdrops are used by portrait photographers.) I bought a "Cobalt Blue" 1930 Borsalino for a song, because the ebay photo was a *hideous* color: this flourescent pimp-worthy medium blue. Turned out, when it arrived, to be a lovely midnight blue -- one of my favorite hats.

I'm a professional photographer, and a Photoshop geek, and I have an *incredibly* difficult time getting hat photos right. (Which is why I've put off photographing the increasingly swollen Visigoth Collection, but I will soon.)

How long 'til Christmas?

I'm going to have to be a very good boy so Santa Claus will bring me one of those fine lids come December. What a colour! What sharp dimensions in crown and brim! Yep, I'm going to have to be extra good this year!

:eek:fftopic: Sharp-looking suit and tie to go with that exceptional fedora, too! No saddlebag there, just a gentleman who knows how to dress like a gentleman.
