Happy Friday!

In keeping with GHT’s comment: Here is another very strange story coming from the UK. It seems that a retired gentleman was out for a walk in rural Scotland when he saw and photographed this creature. Non-native, for sure. It looks as if the reptile is alert to the danger of a nearby human and his dog. The photo caused quite a local stir.

View attachment 253737

What strikes me most about the story in the local press is that there is very little discussion about what the beast might be or where it came from.

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/...eact-sighting-10823510#ICID=sharebar_facebook

Instead, the article jumps right into “what shall we name it?” and “perhaps we can generate some tourist money from this sighting.” I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. Or perhaps that line of talk suggests that this was all a fraud from the start; an effort by a dying village to reinvent itself.

A cynic might even say the photo is just an odd piece of wood caught at just the right angle. The power-of-suggestion is a powerful thing!

But then again...?

Looks to me like an otter that has been amateurishly digitaly altered. You can see that the neck has been crudely extended by adding on a lower second half which isn't even the same color.(one can see the join) You can also see a rather suspicious neckline where it was joined to the body. I'm suprised anybody was fooled :D

I think this 1894 photograph of a Bigfoot that was shot by hunters would qualify as evidence IF the original photograph could be found and dated/verified. As it is, the photo seems only to exist in poor copies published starting in 1982 and on the internet, of course. The writer of the article, “The Oldest Bigfoot Photo: A Cryptozoology Conspiracy?”, wants very much to believe. The article even describes the text that was handwritten on the back of the photograph. A good story! But where is the original photograph? Based on his research, the author speculates that the Hudson Bay Company Archives, located in Winnipeg, may have the originals. I’m not holding my breath. Still, this is an interesting detour from the usual “I saw bigfoot standing by the road” story. The author does make some good points, but I’d say there is still plenty of room for scepticism. From what I hear, the “Finding Bigfoot” type reality shows on TV aren’t helping any.

Holy smokes! It is raining strange creatures! What on earth is this? Take a close look at the video. Very weird, indeed.

This comes to you from Iceland. A woman and her boyfriend were visiting some famous waterfall. Afterwards, when she reviewed the footage she had taken with her phone, she saw this creature clinging to the cliff. Strange does not even begin to describe it.

It being Iceland and all, the immediate response was that it was some kind of Elf. Do Icelanders really believe in Elves?

https://icelandmag.is/article/elves-and-hidden-people-do-icelanders-really-believe-elves

Anyway. Not something you see every day.

As soon as I saw it I thought that's a bird scrambling up the rock face. Having taken some screen shots I have two options. Either some sort of penguin or possibly a bird that got into difficulties in the waterful & drenched/injured wings prevented it from flying. If you use your device's enlarging doo daas, you can see a very bird like head.

Photographers were making fake pictures the day after cameras were invented, so we can't really take these old cryptobeastie pics at face value.

As for this one, two things strike me as odd for a supposed 'Sasquatch'. Firstly the hands, which should be, Hmmm, hands ? given that bigfoot is an ape & yet they resemble paws more than anything else. The front limbs too have the joints of a typical quadrupedal animal rather than a bipedal. Secondly, the head. There is what appears to be a muzzle. Although some species of monkey do possess muzzles, Sasquatch, from witness reports, photographs & film, is more akin to the great apes, i.e. have the flatter faces of primates such as humans & gorillas.
If I was to hazzard a guess I'd say it was a starving bear. Black or most likely an exotic species, such as a spectacled bear, abandoned in the wild (private, zoo, circus etc.) & had trouble surviving. I don't know if the original photo showed the creature's feet but if not, then it was done on purpose as they would have given away just what it was.

Looks more like an Irish Wolfhound to me, just sleeping on top of the snow.

I see two things. First, a group of people trying to come up with the next viral video. Second, a guy just on the other side of what we're led to believe is a "cliff", standing or crouching on a ledge fooling around with a burned action figure attempting to make it look like some sort of creature. Whatever the object is, it's movements are not natural for any being allegedly hanging on a cliff face so I'm almost positive that's not what it is.

Why, yes, I am generally a skeptic.

In an area that stretches from the Florida coast to Bermuda to Puerto Rico, the infamous Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Deadly Triangle or Devil's Triangle, has been blamed for hundreds of shipwrecks, plane crashes, mysterious disappearances, craft instrument malfunctions and other unexplained phenomena.

Any speculative guesses?

So the possiblity that it might be Golum looking for his precious can't be completely ruled out.

Don’t believe in elves? Proceed at your own risk!

http://www.bbc.com/travel/story/20181217-the-elusive-hidden-people-of-iceland

From the article: When he studied in the U.S., he says he would tell his classmates about the elves and "I could read from their eyes and their expressions: 'He's crazy. He's so crazy.' Until I met a student from Hawaii and she was like, 'Yeah, of course. Yeah, I understand, we have those too.’ " He speculates there's a connection between the two volcanic islands...

Here is photographic evidence taken by an Icelander who was trying to spy on one of the elves town hall meetings:

Quote from article: “Scientists have attributed these many disappearances to rapid and severe weather changes, shallow waters, and methane gas eruptions in the seafloor.”

Methane gas eruptions from the seafloor? That sounds just as crazy as “unknown portal to an alternate universe”.

When Christopher Columbus passed through the Bermuda Triangle on his first voyage to the new world, he recorded that a bursting flame of fire struck the sea and caused a strange light to appear… In 1881, the Ellen Austin, a ship sailing from Liverpool to New York, encountered a "ghost ship" in the Bermuda Triangle — in the form of a fully stocked, abandoned ship. Seeing this as an opportunity to seize valuable cargo, they sent some of their men in to occupy the ship and sail the remaining journey side by side. But a wicked storm quickly separated the two ships, and when they were reunited the next day, there wasn't a trace of the crew in sight. the captain of the Ellen Austin tried boarding it again. But when crew members got aboard for the second time, a thick and blinding fog rolled in and separated the ships. When the fog finally cleared, the "ghost" ship had completely vanished; this according to newspaper accounts. … In 1948, a DC-3 commercial flight vanished over the Triangle with 29 passengers and two crew members headed toward Miami. 50 miles before reaching the city, the plane's captain, Robert Lindquist, radioed the Miami Airport for landing instructions. But the radio was met with silence, and the plane was never seen again. … In 1984, a Cessna plane departing from Fort Lauderdale, and en route to an island in the Bahamas, completely vanished from radar. No wreckage was ever found.

My best guess? Ummm, “Methane gas eruptions from the sea floor.” o_O

Ok, so, in the interests of science, I ate a whole load of baked beans and green vegetables in the afternoon, and several hours later grabbed a bunch of my kid's bath toys and filled up the bath and, um, 'relaxed'. Pretty soon, I had my own methane gas eruptions all around the unfortunate plastic toys as they floated on the bath water's surface. No disappearances, no little plastic ships sinking, no strange miasma, though I nearly choked myself to death and my family said they wouldn't be able to use the bathroom for another three hours once I'd gotten out of there.

I say no to the methane gas theory.

I call b.s.. Look at a map. Even a slightly indirect line between Liverpool and New York is nowhere near the Bermuda Triangle. So unless the crew of the Ellen Austin was completely incompetent or they were somehow blown over 700 miles off course, they should have been nowhere near the Bermuda Triangle.

There have been a couple of fascinating documentaries on TV of late in relation to The Bermuda Triangle.
Modern speculation and interest of The Bermuda Triangle began on Dec. 5, 1945, when flight 19, a squadron of five U.S. Navy torpedo bombers, vanished into thin air during a routine training exercise. The planes were fully equipped and had been thoroughly checked before they departed from the Naval Air Station, Fort Lauderdale in Florida. What made the disappearance even more mysterious is that it occurred during peacetime, making it less likely that they were shot down.

Stories like, flight 19 are very difficult to explain, but The Triangle is well over a quarter million square miles, so if those planes were flying in a direction different to which they assumed that their compass showed, they could easily have run out of fuel. But how can five pilots, in five separate aircraft, all make the same mistake? It's baffling.

I always understood that, back in the days of sail, the route from Europe to America generally swung well southward to take advantage of the trade winds and the general clock-wise spin of the Atlantic currents.

https://www.crewseekers.net/notices/sailing-across-atlantic-classic-blue-water-voyage/

Of course, I guess that very fact helps explain why there is so much traffic through the Bermuda Triangle and, thus, with so much traffic, why these types of stories arose. With that much traffic, there are bound to be odd occurrences that start tongues wagging over yea old grog.

The Devil’s Triangle caught live and in action on film!

https://www.fox5ny.com/news/six-waterspouts-filmed-swirling-at-once-in-gulf-of-mexico

Just imagine being caught in that on a sailboat. Oh, wait. This is in the Gulf of Mexico. Never mind.

I actually once saw a very large waterspout when I was in Key West. We were walking on the beach and it was maybe a half mile off shore. It was large and high. Everyone just stood and gaped as it crept out to sea and eventually dissipated.
