Until about 50 years ago, leather jackets were just not commonly sold or bought by the average person. Leather jackets were a specialty item.
The smaller shops were very focused on Police and motorcycle jackets. Larger makers like, California Sportswear, Block, Monarch made all manner of leather outerwear for casual or fashion wear. This trend began in earnest in the mid 30s with introduction of the zipper.
Taubers catalog was probably pretty small during the 40s and into the 50s, focused on Police and motorcycle jackets. To remain relevant they began producing more Civilian jackets, like some pictured above in the 60s.

I posted my recent Utility A2, very similar but this one does not appear to have handwarmer pockets while mine does. This one is from the 40s too. Odd label placement

I sold that due to size, but it was a most impressive jacket. Never seen one like it.
