Given the necessity of obtaining a social security card, my date of arrival would be no earlier than 1935. Location, either Los Angeles or San Francisco. Residence, boarding house initially as I wouldn't have furniture and I'd have money on hand to pay the first week or two up front so the landlady would be so tempted to ask many questions. The job is the hard part because I wouldn't have a work history or references to give. Ideally I would enjoy the work of a private detective but would lack the qualifications being new to the time and area so I'd try for house detective at a hotel. If I could obtain an automobile then I'd offer my services as a private courier for additional income.
