Yes. Definitely CW. Definitely issued/department contracted.

Definitely made for moto cops. Check out the pen pocket—

The cuffs seal up real tight. The jacket accepts riding armor. The velcro is easier to adjust than laces. Looks great with a belt (and hides the velcro if it annoys you). Like I said, if you ride, nothing better. A cross zip version of Vanson’s sport rider jackets. If not, whatever you like.

Get the measurements. This 46 is the same size as a 44 I had and I can wear a 42.

Thank you! I've actually bought it and now waiting for it to arrive — really looking forward to trying it on.

That said, I'm now a bit concerned about the sleeve length.
The seller told me it's 26 inches, which sounds fine — but then I came across a post here saying it was 24" measured straight, and 26" when measured along the outside of the sleeve. How is that possible?

I just checked my Schott Perfecto 618 — it’s around 63 cm straight (about 24.8") and 65 cm along the outside (around 25.6"), so the difference isn't that big.

Is it the same with your jacket?
Maybe the fact that this model is a bit wider in the shoulders helps the sleeves feel longer?

In a way, I’m thinking that those old icons like James Dean, Brando, Presley, etc., didn’t wear 50-year-old jackets. They wore new jackets with little to no patina — which just happened to be timeless designs that we admire today.
So, in a way, wearing a new iteration of the CHP is more in the spirit of those guys.

Do you have any fit pics? I couldn’t find anything other than the ones on the Vanson website — and we all know how poorly those photos represent the jackets. They always make them look ill-fitting and worse than they actually are. I’m still waiting on mine, as the seller is supposed to remeasure the sleeves for me.

Interesting point! In my opinion, in those years the quality of manufacturing (well before mass production) was at the apex, more or less, a blend with sartorial details and focus on long lasting performance....so for them was surely ok to buy something contemporary. Today it's a completely different scenario, as far as I know the garment's industry (my job). So for me today it's worthy to put money on vintage more than new, and this is where the market is going...also on watches, bikes and even cars....

That's very true. I'm really hoping that certain garments—like a Vanson jacket made for the police force—still preserve that focus on long-lasting performance and those neat little details, all on top of some seriously good leather. I also hope that this kind of quality really stands out when compared to fast fashion pieces.

Hi everyone,

I came across this jacket and I’m wondering if it’s an authentic CHP (California Highway Patrol) model or possibly a Vanson variation inspired by it. I’ve attached some photos for reference.

Could anyone more knowledgeable help me identify it?

Also, what do you think about the condition based on the pictures? Is this kind of wear still within “good patina,” or are we looking at something closer to a lost cause? Would you say it's worth picking up — or better to pass?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
Best,
This is one of the best jacket you could ever hope to own , run ……

Well you bought it.
Let’s see it.
The buildup is intense.
