Hello folks,

I was watching Casino Royale yesterday and I could not help but notice Mr. Bond's suit in the final moments of the film...it was a navy blue, three piece suit with a light blue shirt and darker blue tie...right up my alley:) Does anyone know anything about this suit, where to get one like it, etc?

I believe that it is a Brioni suit.

It is indeed by Brioni, as were all of Mr. Craig's suitings in the film. The fabric is a navy with white pin stripe, 3 button coat, 6 button/2 pocket waist coat, flat front trousers.

I don't know if you're up for Brioni, but if you know a local place that does personal tailoring, I'm sure they could come up with something.

Also check out Baron Boutique - they do some reproductions, however I'm not quite sold on the quality of fabric or construction. (And it seems to be difficult to get the measurements spot on with them, as you must be as precise as NASA).

I recently added this very suit to my site, calling it the Goldfinger Royale suit (since it was based loosely on Sean Connery's original Goldfinger Suit).

Here is a good shot of one of my customers in it:

Thanks, 6-String! We'll be in touch...

All I know is that it's a navy version of the grey suit Connery wore in Goldfinger. [huh]

A little more on this as I've heard the same thing. The lapels on the jacket are definitely wider than on Connery's suit. Craig's is also a three-button, whereas the original is a two button. The waistcoat doesn't have lapels.

So, what are the similarities? They both have double rear vents, and I assume the third ticket pocket, though this cannot be seen clearly on film. Flat-fronted trousers are worn in both.

In any case, if it's true that this three-piece suit was meant to pay homage to Connery's Goldfinger suit... than I'm glad to hear it! Connery is Bond. ;)

Kind regards,
Indy

Very British details, all. Fitting. (no pun intended!)

There was a grey three piece in Tomorrow Never Dies worn by Brosnan. It seemed less tailored to him though, much like a lot of his Brioni clothes. I dunno, maybe Brioni just better flatters Daniel Craig's physique? There's something I just can't put my finger on.

The Goldfinger suit has forward double pleats IIRC.

Indeed.

I think your customer there needs a suppressed UMP9 gun to complete the look.* ;)

*Or a suitable airsoft stand-in, orange barrel intact so he doesn't get slammed onto a police car hood at an airport.

It's really about physique between them, it seems to me. If you look at Brosnan in his other movies, he prefers fuller drape, a bit more 'Square Mile' or 'Wall Street' (see Thomas Crown); Craig is just ripped in Royale, so I think tailors are forced to a fitted look.

It might also go to cost. This is purely conjecture, but I'd be willing to bet that Brosnan's were MTM while Craig's were obviously Bespoke -- more money. I mean, $10,000 on the tux - thats a heck of a wardrobe!

I have just bought a 1973 Burton suit from a charity shop in grey flannel that is very like this suit. Uncanny.
